SC seeks replies of office of LG on plea for early holding of mayoral election in MCD

The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought responses from the office of Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, pro tem presiding officer Satya Sharma of MCD and others on a plea filed by Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) mayoral candidate Shelly Oberoi seeking early holding of mayoral election for the civic body.

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala said it is issuing notice on the plea and seeking the replies from them by next Monday.

Three million people in India at risk of flooding by glacial lakes: Study

Three million people in India are at risk of flooding caused by glacial lakes, the highest number of those exposed in the world, according to new study.

The study by an international team led by scientists at UK's Newcastle University, UK is the first global assessment of areas at greatest risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF). Published in the journal Nature Communications on Tuesday, it estimates that 15 million people around the world are at risk from flooding caused by glacial lakes.

Foreign tourist inflow to India up by 4 times after pandemic: Union minister Kishan Reddy

More than one in two cancer patients experience long Covid symptoms: Study

More than one in two cancer patients experienced symptoms of long COVID-19 for more than six months after initial infection, according to a new study at a US cancer centre.

The findings are comparable to reported incidence of long COVID-19 in the general population but also show that women undergoing cancer treatment seem at higher risk than men. The study is published in the journal eLife.

Paytm logs 89 mn monthly transacting users, GMV grows 44% to Rs 1.2 trillion

Leading payments and financial services company Paytm on Wednesday announced it reached 89 million average monthly transacting users (MTU) for the month of January, a 29 per cent (year-on-year) increase.

The company continues to dominate the offline payments market with 6.1 million merchants now paying subscriptions for payment devices, an increase of 0.3 million in January.
