India and UAE hold wide-ranging talks, resolve to boost ties

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday held extensive talks with his counterpart from the UAE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, covering a range of areas including ways to further boost strategic ties and the situation in the neighbourhood of both countries.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the Indian side invited further investments from the UAE in key sectors of the Indian economy such as infrastructure including logistics, food parks, highways, ports, airports, renewable energy and defence.

IMD warns of another spell of heavy rains in Delhi

A fresh spell of rains drenched the national capital on Monday, bringing relief from sultry weather, with the weatherman predicting increase in intensity of showers over the next two days.
 
Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of the regional forecastingcenter of theIndia MeteorologicalDepartment, said the monsoon troughhas once again shifted towards north and will remain close to the national capital over the next three days.
 
"Moderate rains are expected till Thursday. Also, there are chances of one or two spells of heavy rains," he said.

Credit guarantee scheme for NBFC papers extended by three months

The government has extended the partial credit guarantee scheme (PCGS) 2.0 for three months till November 19, and offered greater flexibility under the plan.
 
As part of Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the scheme was launched to provide portfolio guarantee for purchase of bonds or commercial papers (CPs) with a rating of AA and below issued by non-banking finance companies, housing finance companies and microfinance institutions by public sector banks (PSBs).
 
It was envisaged to purchase these papers of Rs 45,000 crore under PCGS 2.0, of which the maximum headroom permissible was 25 per cent of the total portfolio--Rs 11,250 crore. READ MORE...

1,954 roads, 86 bridges completed in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana

Under the Central government's flagship Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), 1,954 roads covering 12,216 km and 86 bridges were completed in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh till July end this year, according to an IANS report.
 
In J&K, 3,261 roads covering 19,277 km and 243 bridges have been sanctioned, of which 1,858 roads totalling 11,517 km and 84 bridges have been completed, said the Rural Development Ministry.
 
Similarly, in Ladakh 142 roads covering 1,207 km and three bridges have been sanctioned, of which 96 roads and two bridges were completed till July 2020.

SC asks Centre to clarify stand on why Reliance Jio be not asked to pay AGR related dues

With differences cropping up between two ministries, the Supreme Court on Monday asked Centre to clarify its stand on why Reliance Jio, which is earning revenue by sharing Reliance Communication's (RCom) spectrum be not asked to pay the Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) related dues to the government, according to a PTI report.
 
The Centre told the top court there is a difference of opinion between two of its ministers (Department of Telecommunication and Ministry of Corporate Affairs) on the issue of sale of spectrum during insolvency proceedings.
 
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Centre and DoT, said the government would support any view taken by the top court resulting in recovery of the AGR related dues.

11,962 people affected in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Baksa districts due to flood in Assam

Three districts of Assam - Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Baksa are still inundated and 11,900 people are reeling under the impact of the flood on Monday, an official bulletin said here.

The flood situation in Bihar remained grim, affecting 81.56 lakh people in 16 districts with the water level in Ganga continuing to rise on Monday, officials said. The water level of the river increased by 5-24 cm in Buxar, Munger, Bhagalpur, Kahalgaon, and at Digha Ghat in Patna, as per a bulletin issued by the state Water Resources Department.
 
The river's water level at the Gandhi Ghat here was 48.62 meters, which is 2 cm above the danger mark, it said. The river also crossed the danger mark by 6 cm at Hathidah where the water was flowing at a level of 41.82 meters.

Amid border tensions, Navy commanders to discuss security situation with China

Amid continuing tensions with China over the territorial dispute, top Navy commanders will meet on Wednesday to discuss its preparedness to deal with the situation and its deployments to counter the activities of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN).
 
The meeting is happening at a time when the Chinese have taken a rigid stand on the border issue and are showing reluctance to disengage from the Finger area, Depsang and Gogra in Eastern Ladakh sector.
 
"The top brass of the Navy would be meeting at the commanders' conference where they would be discussing in detail about the Chinese aggression and the steps required to be taken by the Indian Navy in the Indian Ocean Region and country's territorial waters to check it," Navy sources told ANI.
