Karnataka to release salaries of 130,000 staff of state-run transport corporations

Karnataka on Monday finally decided to release the salaries of nearly 130,000 employees working in four transport corporations run by the state, an official said.
 
The move came a day after children of some of the employees through video messages on social media appealed to Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa to pay the salaries so that they could celebrate festivals like others.
 
With the videos going viral, Yediyurappa on Monday directed the officials to release Rs 635.50 crore "immediately".

Luis Suarez tests positive for coronavirus before World Cup qualifier vs Brazil

Atletico Madrid forward Luis Suárez has tested positive for coronavirus, the Uruguayan Football Association said on Monday. Uruguay's goalkeeper Rodrigo Muñoz and national team staffer Matías Faral have also been infected by the virus.
 
"All three mentioned are in good healthy state and have already implemented the measures needed for the case," the Uruguayan FA said on social media.
 
Suarez will miss not only the Brazil game but also Saturday’s Spanish league match between Atlético Madrid and his former club Barcelona.

Covid tests mandatory as Bengaluru colleges set to reopen

Students and teachers with only negative Covid test results would be allowed to attend classes when degree colleges in the city reopen from Tuesday, an official said.
 
"As per the guidelines and standard operating procedure of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the state government, students, teachers and staff will be allowed to enter the college only if their Covid test is negative," said Bruhat Bengaluru Mahangara Palika Commissioner N. Manjunatha Prasad in a statement here on Monday.
 
After dilly-dallying, the Karnataka government allowed state-run and private colleges to reopen from Tuesday after remaining shut for over seven months due to Covid-induced lockdown.

Iota has intensified over the western Caribbean on approach to Nicaragua and Honduras. US Air Force hurricane hunters flew into Iota's core and measured maximum sustained winds of 160 mph (260 kph), the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
