Drop in flood flow in Godavari river; several Andhra Pradesh villages still inundated

After touching a peak of 22.90 lakh cusecs on Tuesday morning, the flood in Godavari river eased a little with the flow dwindling to 22.40 lakh cusecs by afternoon, but tens of villages in East and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh still remained inundated, news agency PTI reported.
 
The flood flow is expected to further decline as the water level at upstream Bhadrachalam fell by over six feet on Tuesday after touching a high of 61 feet on Monday.
 
Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who reviewed the situation, directed the Collectors of the two districts to immediately distribute Rs 2,000 each to the flood-hit families.

North Korea is believed to have up to 60 nuclear bombs and the world's third-largest stockpile of chemical weapons totalling to 5,000 tonnes, the US Army said in a report. The US Department of the Army headquarters made the assessment in its report, titled "North Korean tactics", saying Pyongyang is unlikely to give up these weapons to ensure the regime's survival, the Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency reported on Tuesday.
 
"Estimates for North Korean nuclear weapons range from 20-60 bombs, with the capability to produce six new devices each year," the report said.
 
The report also showed that Pyongyang is estimated to possess "2,500-5,000 tonnes of chemical weapons of approximately 20 different types, making it the third-largest possessor of chemical agents in the world, news agency IANS reported.

FIR against Facebook executive, two others over social media posts

An FIR has been filed against a senior Facebook executive and two users of the social media platform for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, police said on Tuesday.
 
The case was lodged at Kabir Nagar police station late Monday night based on the complaint of Awesh Tiwari, a Raipur-based journalist of a news channel, Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Yadav told PTI.

No change in former prez Pranab Mukherjee's health condition: Hospital

There is no change in the condition of former President Pranab Mukherjee who continues to be on ventilator support, the Army's Research and Referral hospital said on Tuesday. Doctors attending on him said his vital parameters are stable. The 84-year-old former president was admitted to the hospital in Delhi Cantonment on August 10.
 
He was operated for removal of a clot in the brain and has been in a coma ever since. He also tested positive for COVID-19.
 
"There is no change in the medical condition of Shri Pranab Mukherjee. He continues to be on ventilator support and his vital parameters are stable," a statement from the hospital said.
