	<strong>Maharashtra Gram Panchayat election result 2021</strong>: About 1.25 lakh candidates on Monday emerged victorious in the Gram Panchayat elections held in Maharashtra last week, the outcome which the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) claimed a &quot;huge win&quot; while the opposition BJP said it had come out stronger.<br />

	The counting of votes began at 9 am today. The Maharashtra State Election Commission conducted Gram Panchayat elections for 14,000 gram panchayats in 34 of the total 36 districts in the state. There are 27,920 gram panchayats in Maharashtra. Though the village panchayat elections are not fought on party symbols, panels are fielded by political parties or local leaders.&nbsp;<br />
	<br />
	Earlier in the day, stones were pelted at BJP workers who were part of a rally attended by Union Minister Debasree Chaudhuri, state BJP chief Dilip Ghosh and Suvendu Adhikari in Kolkata.<br />

	Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee kicked off the Trinamool Congress&#39;s campaign for the assembly elections on Monday, announcing that she will contest the polls from Nandigram -- a political gambit aimed at the BJP&#39;s Suvendu Adhikari who won the seat in 2016 as a TMC candidate, while also retroceding to the land movement that catapulted her to power.<br />
	<br />
	On the business front, Piramal group emerged the preferred bidder for resolution of the troubled Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL). The committee of creditors (CoC) of the company are likely to hold a meeting today to discuss on who gets the money recovered from frauds that happened at DHFL.</div>
