Four JeM terrorists killed in 3-hour-long gunbattle on Jammu-Srinagar highway

Four suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were killed and two policemen injured in a gunbattle on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway after a truck carrying newly infiltrated militants was intercepted on the outskirts of Jammu city on Thursday. The terrorists had come to execute a "big plan" which has now been foiled, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, Mukesh Singh, said.
 
Reacting to the success of the security forces, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, "No outside force can derail us from our mission of peace and progress."
 
In Srinagar, IGP, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said the four terrorists were on their way to the Kashmir Valley to disturb the District Development Council (DDC) polls scheduled later this month, as Pakistan has been trying to cause trouble in the political process.

SC orders Uttarakhand govt to demolish four illegal religious structures in Haridwar

The Supreme Court on Thursday gave time till May 31, next year to Uttarakhand government to demolish the four illegal religious structures built on public land in Haridwar in view of upcoming Kumbh Mela' which is scheduled to be held in the city from January, 2021.
 
A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and M R Shah said, For the reasons given in the application and especially that Kumbh Mela' is to commence in 2021 and will end on April 15, 2021, we are of the view that the State should be permitted to demolish the illegal structures by May 31, 2021.
 
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Uttarakhand government, submitted that the State has undertaken to commence proceedings for demolition of the four illegal structures in Haridwar and will remove them by May 31, 2021.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the belief in democracy, rule of law and freedom is the strength of the partnership between India and Luxembourg.
 
Speaking at the first stand-alone India-Luxembourg summit via video conferencing, PM Modi said, "India-Luxembourg's partnership amid the COVID-19 pandemic can be beneficial for the recovery of both the countries. Our bilateral belief in democracy, rule of law and freedom strengthens our relation and partnership." Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel greeted PM Narendra Modi as "Hello my friend" after welcoming him with folded hands.
 
"On the behalf of 130 crore Indians, I send my condolences to the people who died of COVID-19 in Luxembourg. I also congratulate the Prime Minister for his efficient dealing with the coronavirus," he said.

Farmers will reach Delhi on Nov 26 to protest against agriculture laws

Up in arms against the three agriculture-related Acts enacted by the Centre in September, representatives of farmers across the country on Thursday unanimously decided here to rally in Delhi on November 26 to lodge their protests.
 
Representatives of all-India farmer unions decided on this issue after their parleys with Union Ministers remained inconclusive.
 
The farmer leaders warned the respective state governments that if they were stopped from proceeding towards Delhi, they would stage indefinite protests en route. They also demanded permission to rally at Ramlila Maidan, failing which they threatened to block entry points to Delhi from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
 
The meeting of representatives of All India Kisan Mahasangh, All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, and a farmer forum led by BS Rajewal and Gurnam Singh Chanduni was called to chalk out the 'Delhi Chalo' programme.

Rahul Gandhi hits out at Modi govt over high Covid-19 mortality, low GDP

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday targeted the Narendra Modi government over its handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the economy, saying while the number of COVID-19 deaths was among the highest in the world, its GDP growth was also among the lowest.
 
"Modi government's report card: At the forefront in corona mortality, the lowest in GDP rate," he said in a tweet in Hindi.
 
He also tagged a chart showing India among the highest at 95 COVID deaths per million population and the lowest at -10.3 per cent in the GDP growth rate as compared to other countries in the world. Gandhi and the Congress party have attacked the Modi government over the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and accused it of "destroying" the country's economy due to its policies.

PM Modi to inaugurate ReInvest 2020 virtually for investment in clean energy on Nov 26

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the third edition of Global Renewable Energy Investment Meeting and Expo (RE-INVEST 2020), virtually on November 26, in a bid to provide an international forum for investment promotion in renewable energy sector.
 
Along with Prime Minister Modi, the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, UK and President COP-26 and the Minister of Energy, Utilities and Climate, Denmark will also address inaugural session.
 
"It will also send signals to the global renewable community about India's commitment to the development and scaling up of renewable energy to meet its energy requirements in a sustainable manner. In India during the last 6 years, over Rs 4.7 lakh crore were invested and India has become a favoured destination for investment in renewables," RK Singh, Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy said here on Thursday.

Sebi demands Rs 62,600 crore from Sahara in Supreme Court petition

India's market regulator has filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking it to direct embattled Sahara conglomerate chief Subrata Roy and two of his companies to deposit Rs 62,600 crore ($8.4 billion) that it said was due to its investors.
 
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) told the Supreme Court that Sahara had failed to comply with 2012 and 2015 court orders to deposit the entire amount it collected from investors along with 15% annual interest, according to a copy of the petition filed on Wednesday and seen by Reuters.
 
Sahara, once the sponsor of India's national cricket team, has been embroiled in a battle with SEBI over repaying billions of dollars to investors who put their money in a bond scheme that was later ruled to be illegal. READ ON...
