China's economy accelerates as coronavirus recovery gains strength
China's economic growth accelerated to 4.9 per cent over a year earlier in the latest quarter as a shaky recovery from the coronavirus pandemic gathered strength.
Figures announced Monday for the three months ending in September were in line with expectations after the ruling Communist Party declared the outbreak under control in March and began reopening factories, shops and offices.
Factory output rose, boosted by foreign demand for Chinese-made masks and other medical supplies. Retail sales, which had lagged behind the manufacturing rebound, finally returned to pre-virus levels.
The economy continued the steady recovery, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a report. However, it warned, the international environment is still complicated and severe.

Border violence: Union Home Secy convenes talks with Assam, Mizoram
Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla would hold a meeting, through video conference, with the Chief Secretaries of Assam and Mizoram on Monday, following the latter's complaint of Assam's "transgressions" along the inter-state border, the Mizoram government said on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, an Assam government release said that state Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya on Sunday visited Lailapur, where some houses and stalls were torched by miscreants from Mizoram on Saturday night, and assured its residents that the administration would come to their aid.
A Mizoram government release said that it is also actively engaging with the Assam government to resolve the current issues at the state border, apart from approaching the Union Home Ministry.

BARC expresses dismay at leak, Republic says it ends Mumbai Police campaign
The Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) has expressed "dismay" at the leak and "misrepresentation" of its confidential communication by the Republic Network.
In a post on its Twitter handle, BARC said: "BARC has not commented on the ongoing investigation and it is providing necessary assistance to the law enforcement agency."
