The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has released comparative figures of various crimes in the first seven months of the current year to substantiate its claim of a 'drastic' reduction in crime.
The Home department officials said that the crime rate had drastically gone down since 2017 as the state government had taken strict action against criminals.
According to the figures shared by the state home department, incidents of rape had drastically come down since the formation of the BJP government in the state in March 2017.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday met the family members of a sanitation worker who recently died of Covid-19, and handed over a cheque of Rs 1 crore as an ex-gratia to them.
Talking to reporters during his visit in North Delhi's Majnu Ka Tilla area, Kejriwal said that sanitation worker Raju contracted the infection when he was on Covid-19 duty and died while serving the people of Delhi.
"We are proud of such 'corona warriors' who are sacrificing their lives while saving the citizens of Delhi," he said.

Online retail giant Amazon has removed shirts from its platform that featured derogatory references to Kamala Harris, the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee.
"All sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action including potential removal of their account. We are working to remove these products," an Amazon spokesperson told reporters, according to The Hill.
As per the report, Harris has incurred some personal attacks ever since Joe Biden selected her as his running mate.
Biden has officially accepted the Presidential nomination of the Democratic Party.

Two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip landed near the Israeli security fence late Thursday, and Israel carried out airstrikes on targets linked to the territory's Hamas rulers, the Israeli military said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage. The military said it struck a concrete manufacturing site used for underground infrastructure and tunnel construction, belonging to the Hamas terror organization.
Tensions have risen in recent days as groups affiliated with Gaza's militant Hamas rulers have launched incendiary balloons across the frontier, igniting farmland inside Israel.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday directed the authorities to set up a committee of experts to discuss implementation of the Centre's new National Education Policy (NEP). Speaking during a meeting, Thackeray said the NEP has several new concepts, for which the state government will have to amend the existing laws.
"The need of the hour is to have a discussion with researchers, education experts to discuss the policy, which has only been announced so far," a statement by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) quoted him as saying. The state government has to see what changes can be accepted and what laws need to be amended, he added.

A crowd-funding initiative by nature lovers and local organisations has saved over a 100- year-old banyan tree near Arambol beach in North Goa, which had gotten uprooted due to incessant rains earlier this month.
A popular hang-out spot in the area, foreigners and locals would frequently have their yoga sessions under the tree.
Incessant rainfall had hit the coastal state on August 5, uprooting the tree, which had crashed on the road side.
Heartbroken locals and nature lovers launched an online crowd-funding campaign to re-root the tree.
9:40 AM20 workers fall ill after gas leak in private agro products unit in Andhra Pradesh
At least 20 workers, majority of them women, fell sick after a leak of ammonium gas late on Thursday night in a dairy belonging to a private agro products firm in Putalapattu constituency in Andhra Pradesh.
While three of the victims were shifted to Ruia Hospital in temple town of Tirupati, five were admitted to the CMC hospital in Vellore in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
The others were undergoing treatment in the government hospital in Chittoor, police said.
