Suspension of sentence by HC crucial for Bharti against disqualification: Legal experts

After a Delhi court on Saturday sentenced Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti to two years imprisonment for assaulting AIIMS security staff in a 2016 case, the issue over his disqualification has come into the fore.

According to legal experts, the suspension of the sentence and his conviction in the case by the high court is essential to protect Bharti against disqualification.

Yediyurappa says illegal mining will be completely stopped

Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa on Saturday said illegal quarrying or mining will not be permitted in the state and necessary action will be taken against such activities.

After paying homage to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bhose on his 125th birth anniversary here, Yediyurappa exhorted he will not allow illegal quarrying or mining for any reason.

"Tragic incidents like Shivamogga should never repeat in our state. Now it is time to stop illegal mining activities completely," he said
