Covid-19: No proper protocol, vehicle shortage hinder implementation of LG order, say officials

Shortage of vehicles and absence of a proper protocol on who will take patients to COVID-19 care centres are some of the stumbling blocks to authorities implementing Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal's order on home isolation, officials said.

In view of the surge in coronavirus cases in the national capital, the LG had on Friday directed a five-day mandatory institutional quarantine for every COVID-19 patient, but the decision was revoked a day later following stiff opposition by the AAP government.

Now, all individuals who test positive will be first examined at COVID-19 care centres to ascertain if they need hospitalisation. It will also be checked if the patients have adequate facilities for home isolation.

China, Japan dispute over islands may trigger new political tension: Report

A dispute between China and Japan over the chain of Senkaku/ Diaoyu islands in the East China Sea may trigger new political tension in Asia over the years, said analysts.

China shares its borders with 14 countries but it is in loggerhead with most nations over territories including islands.

Tensions over the rocky chain, 1,200 miles (1,900 kilometres) southwest of Tokyo, have simmered for years, and with claims over them dating back hundreds of years, neither Japan nor China is likely to back down over territory considered a national birthright in both capitals, CNN reported. Suspension of foreign work visas to free up to 525,000 jobs in US: White House

The temporary suspension of foreign work visas is expected to free up to 5,25,000 jobs in the US, senior officials said after President Donald Trump issued a proclamation to ban until the end of the year popular non-immigrant visas, including H1B and L1, which benefit Indian IT professionals.

"The sum total of what these actions will do in terms of freeing up jobs over the course of the rest of 2020 is about 5,25,000 jobs," a senior administration official told reporters during a conference call on Monday.

"Quite a significant number, where President Trump is focusing on getting Americans back to work as quickly as possible after we've suffered this hit to our economy based on the coronavirus and the harm it's done," the official said.

US President Donald Trump suspended the entry into the United States of certain foreign workers on Monday, a move the White House said would help the coronavirus-battered economy, but which business groups strongly oppose.
