Pakistan Air Force chief visits air base in PoK
The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) chief on Saturday visited a base in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir where he witnessed various operational activities.
Addressing base personnel at the PAF Base Qadri in Skardu in Gilgit-Baltistan, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan said that the PAF alongside its sister services is "ever ready to give a befitting response to any misadventure by the adversary", state-run Radio Pakistan reported.

India-EU renew agreement on S&T cooperation
India and the European Union have renewed their agreement to expand scientific and technological cooperation aimed at strengthening their collaboration in this area in the next five years.
Last week, the two sides agreed to renew the agreement on scientific cooperation till 2025 at the 15th India-EU Summit, which was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the Indian side.
The European Union delegation was headed by European Council President Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

Cong workers stage demonstrations across Rajasthan against BJP
The Congress staged demonstrations across Rajasthan on Saturday against what it called a BJP "conspiracy to topple" its government and to press for an assembly session.
Congress workers gathered in large numbers in Jaipur and district headquarters and raised slogans against the BJP and demanded that the governor convene a session of the Assembly.

Assam floods: 1 more dead, 2.63 million affected in 27 districts
The flood situation in Assam remained grim as one more person died and 2.63 million people are affected in 27 of the states 33 districts on Saturday, a government report said.
With the death of one person in Morigaon district, the toll in this year's flood and landslides has risen to 123.
While 97 people died in flood-related incidents, 26 were killed in landslides, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.

Tamil Nadu govt deposits Rs 67 cr in court for acquisition of Jaya's residence
The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday deposited Rs 67.9 crore in the city Civil Court for acquiring late Chief Minister J Jayalalitha's Poes Garden residence, Veda Nilayam, here, as part of its efforts to convert it into a memorial.
Of the sum, Rs 36.9 crore would be paid towards IT and wealth tax arrears which Jayalalithaa had reportedly owed the Income Tax department, thus freeing it of any encumbrances, official sources said.

US federal agents and law enforcement officers have entered the Chinese consulate compound here along with locksmiths after the mission was shut down, amidst spiralling tensions between Washington and Beijing.
The Trump Administration ramped up its confrontation with China this week, ordering Beijing's consulate in Houston to close over concerns about economic espionage.

Bandh called by Maoists in Telangana incident-free: Police
The bandh, called by Maoists in Telangana on Saturday to reportedly seek the release of poet Varavara Rao and others from jail, was incident-free, a police official said.
Maoists have also sought withdrawal of Greyhounds, an elite commando force of the state police, from the forest areas, he said.
"No impact. No incidents so far," the official added.
The bandh was to reportedly demand the release of Rao, accused in the Elgar Parishad case, and the others.
Rao (80), undergoing treatment for Covid-19 in Mumbai since July 16, has been behind bars for about 22 months.

No need to privatise PSBs, get govt share down to 26% : RBI Board member
Public sector banks should not be privatised given the country's developmental needs but the government can look at reducing its shareholding to 26 per cent by selling a larger portion of its stake to common Indians, RBI's board member Satish Marathe said on Saturday.
Marathe, who started out working in a state-run bank before getting associated with the cooperative banks sector, however, said that public sector banks need an overhaul of their systems, processes and staff attitudes to be relevant and effective in the future.

1,989 villages in 19 Karnataka districts identified as flood prone
The Karnataka government on Saturday said it has identified 1,989 villages and over 51 lakh people in 19 districts as flood prone, as it prepares to face the ongoing rainy season.
"In 19 districts, about 1,989 villages have been identified on a preliminary basis- as those likely to be affected by floods and 51,81,359 people have been identified for shifting if there are floods," Revenue Minister R Ashoka said.

Heavy rains in several parts of Rajasthan
Heavy to very heavy rains lashed parts of Rajasthan, with Marwar junction in Pali district recording the maximum rainfall at 15 cm in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning.
Pisangan (Ajmer), Riyanbari (Nagaur), Rupangarh (Ajmer), Merta city (Nagaur) and Ajmer recorded 14 cm, 13 cm, 12 cm, 10 cm and 9 cm rainfall respectively during this period.
Dabok (Udaipur), Barmer, Sikar, Jodhpur and Churu recorded 32 mm, 7.4 mm, 0.8 mm, 0.4 mm and 0.3 mm rainfall respectively, according to the Meteorological Department here.

Jhingan, Thapa good enough to play for international clubs: India assistant coach
Indian football team assistant coach Shanmugam Venkatesh feels it is the perfect time for defender Sandesh Jhingan and midfielder Anirudh Thapa to ply their trade at international clubs.
Jhingan is among the biggest names in Indian football at the moment, while 22-year-old Thapa has also impressed with his game, turning out for both his club Chennaiyin FC and the national team.
"I strongly feel this is the right time for him to go and play outside (India). It's a big surprise that he is still playing in India. Whatever Sandesh has achieved so far is entirely because of his hard work," Venkatesh said during an All Indian Football Federation (AIFF) Instagram Live session.
