CBI registers FCRA violation case in Kerala govt's Life Mission project, conducts searches

The CBI on Friday conducted searches at two locations in Kochi after registering a case of alleged violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulations) Act in the Kerala government's Life Mission project for providing houses for the poor, officials said.

The CBI has booked Santhosh Eapan of Unitac Builders, which bagged the contract of the project, and carried out searches at his office and residence in Kochi.

Rajasthan CM appeals for calm as violent protests continue

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday took to Twitter and appealed to the agitating people to maintain peace, law and order in the state as violent protests, which erupted on Thursday in Dungarpur district, escalated on Friday. The protestors torched police vehicles and pelted stones at the policemen, injuring many of them.

On Thursday, thousands of applicants for the 2018 teacher recruitment exam turned violent in Dungarpur district demanding that the 1,167 general category posts be filled with Scheduled Tribe candidates. They torched police vehicles and pelted stones at the policemen.

Agitating farmers blocked roads, including highways, to press the Centre for the withdrawal of the legislations, which are yet to get the assent of the President.

Road blockades caused hardships to commuters in both states.

Punjab farmers held the agitation as part of a bandh call against the Bills.

The Punjab bandh call is getting support from government employees' unions, singers, commission agents, labourers and social activists.
