Huawei cuts India revenue target by up to 50%, laying off staff: ET

Chinese telecom company Huawei Technologies Co has cut its India revenue target for 2020 by up to 50% and is laying off more than half of its staff in the country, the Economic Times reported on Monday, amid calls to boycott Chinese goods. Huawei's India unit said the report suggesting layoffs of more than half of Huawei staff in the country was untrue, but did not elaborate.

The newspaper said the company was targeting $350-500 million in revenue for 2020, compared with roughly $700-800 million it was aiming for earlier in Asia's third-largest economy.

The Economic Times said the company was cutting 60-70% of its Indian staff, excluding those in research and development and the global service centre. Huawei's India unit said it continues "to work closely" with all customers in the country.

Assembly Session can be summoned, give 21-day notice: Rajasthan Governor to Cabinet

Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra on Monday agreed to summon a session of the state assembly provided the government gives a 21-day notice.

The condition is part of three suggestions the Governor has made while returning Ashok Gehlot Cabinet's recommendation that he should call a session of the Vidhan Sabha. This was the second time that Mishra has returned a Cabinet proposal on convening the assembly, amid the power tussle in Rajasthan.

Mishra also wrote that the state government should undertake to broadcast live the proceedings of a floor test, if it takes place. It should also ensure precautions during the proposed Vidhan Sabha sitting against the spread of coronavirus, his note said.

Informed PM Modi about Rajasthan Governor's behavior: CM Ashok Gehlot

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday said he has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inform about the behaviour of the state's Governor Kalraj Mishra.

"I spoke with Prime Minister yesterday (on Sunday) and told him about the behaviour of the Governor. I spoke with him regarding the letter I had written to him seven days back," Gehlot said while leaving the Fairmont Hotel.

Earlier in the day, Congress MLAs organised a prayer meeting in the hotel premises under the "Save Democracy-Save Constitution" programme, in which Gehlot and other party leaders had participated.

Congress MLAs have been staying at the hotel for nearly two weeks after the state plunged into a political crisis as the differences between Sachin Pilot and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot came out in the open.

Rajasthan HC dismisses plea against Congress-BSP MLAs merger

In a relief for Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot-led government, the Rajasthan High Court on Monday dismissed a petition filed by a BJP MLA challenging the merger of six BSP MLAs with the Congress party in the state, according to an ANI report.

The High Court had earlier today asked Additional Advocate General RP Singh, appearing for the state government, to seek all information from the Assembly Speaker regarding the petition.

BJP MLA Madan Dilawar had moved a petition in the High Court seeking directions to quash the merger of six BSP MLAs with the Congress party, which had helped the ruling party in retaining a majority in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.

The petition had also challenged the Speaker's inaction in not deciding on his plea seeking disqualification of the six MLAs from the Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had also moved the High Court seeking to become a party in the petition by BJP against the merger. Notably, Dilawar today sat on a protest in the office of the Vidhan Sabha Secretary demanding a copy of the order given by Rajasthan Speaker on the merger of six BSP MLAs with Congress.

Latest News LIVE: Rupee pares initial gains, settles unchanged at 74.83 against dollar

The rupee pared its initial gains and settled on a flat note at 74.83 (provisional) to the US dollar on Monday.

At the interbank forex market, the domestic unit opened on a strong note at 74.70, but erased the gains to finally close at 74.83, unchanged from its previous closing. During the session, the domestic unit witnessed an intra-day high of 74.67 and a low of 74.90 against the US dollar, according to a PTI report.

Forex traders said the uptick in the rupee during the day was supported by weak greenback and foreign fund inflows. While muted domestic equities and concerns over geopolitical developments weighed on investor sentiment, they added. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.53 per cent to 93.93.
