J-K admin gives financial relief of Rs 500,000 to man injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistan

A financial assistance of Rs 500,000 was provided to a man who got injured during a ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army in January, officials said on Friday.
 

Poonch Deputy Commissioner Rahul Yadav handed over the cash relief to Mohd Shokat of Kossalian Tehsil Haveli, they said.
 

Shokat, an army porter, escaped with critical injuries while two of his associates were killed when they were targeted by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gulpur sector in January this year.

Cong petitions EC against decision on postal ballots for voters above 65, Covid patients

The Congress on Friday petitioned the Election Commission (EC) against the government's move to extend postal ballot facility to electors aged 65 and above, and demanded its reversal.
 

The party, in a meeting held through video-conferencing, urged the commission to utilise its powers under Article 324 of the Constitution and direct an immediate withdrawal of the decision.
 

Elections to the 243-member Bihar assembly are due before November 2020.

Trade unions hold protest against privatisation drive

Members of ten central trade unions on Friday held a protest here against the government's privatization drive and changes in labour laws by some state governments.
 

Representatives of trade unions during the protest outside the Shram Shakti Bhawan here said that even as the industrial activity is resuming, all workers are not being taken back by their employers. Those who are back on work are being offered low salaries and no payment for lockdown days, they said.
 

The joint protest was called by INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, TUCC, AIUTUC, AICCTU, SEWA, UTUC and LPF.
 

A joint statement by the central trade unions said, "The nationwide protest by central trade unions on July 3, 2020 was against changes in labour laws, privatisation of government departments and PSUs, and for rights of unorganized sector workers."

Draft of industrial policy to be tabled in 10 days: Minister

A draft of the new industrial policy to develop industries in the second and third tier cities of Karnataka would be presented before the Cabinet in the next 10 days, a state Minister said on Friday.
 

The Minister for Medium and Large Industries Jagadish Shettar said, "The Governor has approved the Karnataka Industrial Facilitation Amendment Act which was recently approved by the Cabinet."


Such changes would make Karnataka the number-one industry-friendly state in the country, he said while addressing the International MSME Day celebrations organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI).

Union minister lauds Haryana govt's efforts of providing piped drinking water by 2022

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Friday lauded the efforts of the Haryana government for swiftly moving forward to achieve the target of providing piped drinking water to all rural households by 2022.
 

This is much ahead of the national target date of 2024 under the ambitious 'Jal Jeevan Mission' (JJM).
 

The minister said other states have been asked to emulate the Haryana pattern in planning their way forward in the 'Jal Jeevan Mission'.
 

"It is a matter of great pride that dedicated efforts made by various departments and officers, who under the leadership of Chief Minister, Manohar Lal, are continually working as a team to beat the national goal of providing tap water connection to all rural houses by 2022," he said.

Banks disburse over Rs 50,000 cr loans to MSMEs under credit guarantee scheme

The finance ministry on Friday said banks have disbursed Rs 52,255.53 crore loans under the Rs 3-trillion Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) for the MSME sector reeling under economic slowdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
 

However, this is against the sanction of Rs 1.10 trillion under the 100 per cent ECLGS for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) till July 1.
 

The scheme is the biggest fiscal component of the Rs 20-trillion Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan package announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in May.

Militants keep coming to Srinagar but we ensure they don't set up base there: IG Police

Srinagar is not militancy-free as the ultras keep coming to the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir to seek medical treatment, funds and meetings for future course of action but security forces have ensured that they are not able to set up base here, a senior police officer said on Friday.
 

"Srinagar is such a city where militants keep coming repeatedly. Some come for medical treatment, some for getting funds and some for further meetings. So it would not be correct to say that Srinagar is militancy free. Militants will keep coming here, we will keep getting information and do encounters (sic)," Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told reporters after the wreath laying ceremony for a CRPF jawan.
 

The jawan was killed in an encounter with militants in Malbagh area of the city late on Thursday night. One militant was also killed in the operation.

PFS secures Rs 300-cr term loan from SBI to fund biz plans

PTC India Financial Services Ltd (PFS) on Friday said it has secured a Rs 300 crore term loan from State Bank of India, to meet its business growth needs.
 

The money will be utilised for further strengthen the cash flow of the company and for onward funding to sustainable infrastructure finance projects, PFS said in a release.
 

SBI has sanctioned us a term loan - working capital augmentation (TLWC) of Rs 300 crore with a door-to-door tenor of three years, including a moratorium of six months, with sub-limit of Rs 300 crore as investment limit for investment in commercial papers/non-convertible debentures/bonds within the overall TLWC limit, it said in a release.
