Dilution of big institutions will not be good: Manish Sisodia on NEP 2020

The National Education Policy (NEP) envisages all colleges and universities to be multidisciplinary, but the dilution of big institutions will not be good for the country, said Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday.

"It envisages all colleges and universities to be multidisciplinary. Let IIT deal with engineering, IIM with management, AIIMS with medical and FTII with acting. Dilution of such big institutes will not be good for the talent of the country," Sisodia told ANI when asked about the NEP.

He said that in the country there are institutions that are already multidisciplinary and some are catering to one particular sector. This system is "doing good" and it should not be interfered with.

RBI likely to continue with rate cuts at next week's review: Crisil

The Reserve Bank is likely to cut rates by 0.25 per cent at next week's policy review even though inflation remains on the higher side, domestic ratings agency Crisil said on Friday.

On the price rise scenario, it said the situation has evolved in such a way that while the end consumer is paying high for food articles, the farmer is getting less because of a dip in wholesale prices.

Many analysts have been expecting the RBI to continue with its rate cuts to prop up the economy, which is set to contract in FY21, while some are wagering on a pause. The RBI has already cut rates by 1.15 per cent in two moves since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in March.

Congress did not enact law against triple talaq for 'vote bank politics': Ministers

Three senior ministers of the Modi government on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress at an event marking the first anniversary of the law against triple talaq, saying the legislation could have been enacted in the 1980s, but for the alleged vote bank politics of the grand old party.

Addressing Muslim women from across the country via a video link during the event, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said triple talaq or 'talaq-e-biddat' was "neither Islamic, nor legal", but despite that, the social evil was given "political patronage" by "merchants of vote bank".

The law against triple talaq could have been passed in the 1980s when the Supreme Court had given a historic judgment in the Shah Bano case, he said.
