NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma holds closed-door meeting with Nagaland CM
Senior Assam minister and convener of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Himanta Biswa Sarma had a closed-door meeting with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio here on Sunday, sources in the chief ministers office (CMO) said.
Sarmas visit assumes significance as he along with Rio and Leader of Opposition in Nagaland T R Zeliang had held discussions on the vexed Naga political issue with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on October 20.
After landing here in the afternoon, Sarma met the chief minister at his official residence, said Abu Metha, Advisor to Nagaland chief minister.
Suspension of trains: Punjab CM seeks Union home minister's intervention
Amid the suspension of train services due to a farmers' stir against the Centre's farm laws, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh said he has sought Union Home Minister Amit Shah's intervention into the issue.
According to a government statement, he also reiterated his assurance of a smooth and safe movement of goods trains in the state.

Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Sunday reiterated his claims that the ruling BJP will change its Chief Minister in Karnataka after the Bihar assembly poll results are out on November 10.

In the face of strong protest from opposition political parties and students, Odisha government on Sunday decided not to slash the post-matric scholarship amount for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes students.
"There will be no change in the amount of post-matric scholarship for SC & ST students," Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said in a statement.

The government is reconsidering extension of sugar export subsidies as India has got good opportunity to sell the sweetener in the international market during November-April of the 2019-20 season that commenced this month, according to Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey.
India, the world's second-largest sugar-producing country, had to offer export subsidies during the last two years in order to reduce surplus stocks and help cash-starved sugar mills clear cane payment to growers.

The Congress on Sunday slammed the government over demonetisation, alleging that the Modi government has continuously changed the explanatory reasons for carrying out the measure four years ago and it has "destroyed" the economy.
On November 8, 2016, Prime Minister Modi announced the decision to ban all currency notes of higher denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 from midnight.

Minister K T Rama Rao slams Centre for not extending financial assistance

Rama Rao, also the Municipal Administration Minister alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not responded to the letter written by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao requesting release of Rs 1,350 crore as immediate assistance for relief measures in view of the huge loss caused by the rains and floods.
Cracker ban: CAIT demands compensation for traders' losses
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Sunday said states that have banned sale of firecrackers should compensate firecracker traders for the losses suffered by them due to the ban.
CAIT in a statement demanded that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and chief ministers of other states should "compensate the firecracker traders for the losses they have accrued due to ban on sale of firecrackers".
