The opposition Left Front on Wednesday asked the Mamata Banerjee government to hold a free, fair and peaceful civic poll slated for June three and demanded a stop to attacks on its workers.

Left Front chairman Biman Bose said while briefing reporters after attending a meeting at the CPI-M headquarters here that 'atrocities' on its workers by Trinamool Congress activists must stop before the poll.

"Political atrocities have to be stopped and fake litigations filed against our party workers have to be withdrawn", Bose said, adding, the Left Front would strengthen its poll campaign in the days ahead. He said the campaign involving its mass organisations would go on beyond the June three civic poll and the panchayat election thereafter.
