Licences of 71 FPS cancelled for irregularities in Haryana

Security money amounting to Rs 5.89 lakh of 246 dealers has been forfeited in the first five months of the current financial year

Haryana Food and Supplies Department has cancelled licences of 71 fair price shops and fortified security money of 246 dealers for allegedly committing irregularities in distribution of commodities.

Security money amounting to Rs 5.89 lakh of 246 dealers has been forfeited in the first five months of the current financial year, a spokesman of the Food and Supplies Department said here today.

He said that essential commodities were being provided to the people through 9,180 fair price shops located in urban and rural areas, near industrial units and hostels of students.

Out of the total fair price shops functioning in the state, 6,534 were located in the rural areas and 2,646 in urban areas. As many as 77 fair price shops were located near industrial units and 22 near schools or hostels, he added.
 
He said that 38,450 metric tonne of wheat was distributed to Below Poverty Line families and families who are beneficiaries of Antyodaya Anna Yojna during the month of August.
