Congress files plaint against BJP Prez Nadda, Karnataka CM, after MLA's Rs 6,000 per vote remark

The Congress in Karnataka on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the police against BJP national President J P Nadda, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi levelling allegations of offering bribes to woo voters in the ensuing assembly polls in the state.
 
State Congress President D K Shivakumar, legislature party leader Siddaramaiah who are signatories of the complaint have requested the police to register a case and conduct an inquiry.
 
The complaint comes following an alleged announcement of Rs 6,000 per vote in the assembly elections due in May, by Gokak BJP MLA Jarkiholi.

All security measures in place for Bharat Jodo Yatra along Srinagar-Jammu highway: CRPF

Security forces are on alert and have put in place all measures along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for the safety of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, officials said on Wednesday, a day before it is scheduled to reach Kashmir.

CRPF Deputy Inspector General (Operations), South Kashmir, Alok Avasthi said the force is anyway always on alert.

The Election Commission (EC) has "revised" the date of polling, from February 27 to February 26, for bypolls in two assembly seats of Maharashtra's Pune district after it was informed about the dates clashing with scheduled class 12 and graduation exams there.

BJP govt trying to 'cover up' PSI scam in Karnataka: Randeep Singh Surjewala

The Congress on Wednesday accused the ruling BJP in Karnataka of attempting to 'cover up' the Police Sub-Inspector recruitment scam in which already an ADGP rank officer has been arrested.

The grand old party said the prime accused in the case, R D Patil has written to the Lokayukta alleging that the investigating officer of the scam had demanded Rs 3 crore to shut the case and already Rs 76 lakh has been paid.

Microsoft Corp's Teams app was down for thousands of users in India on Wednesday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

The website, which tracks outages through a range of sources including user reports, showed there were more than 1,800 incidents of people reporting issues with Microsoft Teams in India.

BJP spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill on Wednesday seized on the resignation of Kerala leader Anil Antony from his posts in the Congress to take a swipe at his former party, claiming those who think for the nation's sovereignty and integrity can no longer remain there.

"Self-respecting individuals who think for the nation, for nation's sovereignty & integrity can no longer remain in the Congress. It's not 'mohabbat ki dukan' but 'chamchon ka durbar' which dominates Cong," he said, echoing Antony's charge of sycophancy in the party.

CJI announces launch of service to provide verdicts in some scheduled languages

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud Wednesday said the electronic Supreme Court Reports (e-SCR) project will now start providing apex court judgements in various Indian scheduled languages from Republic Day.

As soon as the bench assembled for the day, the CJI told the lawyers the apex court will operationalise the part of the E-SCR project on Thursday for providing verdicts in some local scheduled languages free of cost.

Former US secretary of state Mike Pompeo wrote in a book published Tuesday that India and Pakistan came close to nuclear war in 2019 and that US intervention prevented escalation.

Telangana BJP chief slams CM Rao for not attending all-party meet on G20

Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar has likened the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led government to the Nizam rule and claimed that his "autocratic" rule will soon end.
 
"While he has ample time to pay tributes to the titular Nizam (who passed away last week) and offered condolences to his family members, he has no time to attend the all-party meeting organized by the prime minister for nation-building," Kumar said.

Tripura: Poll official suspended for 'defacing' PM Modi's photo

A sector officer of Sabroom assembly constituency in poll-bound Tripura has been suspended for allegedly "defacing" a poster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a drive to remove hoardings and banners from public places, an official said.
 
The action was taken a day after the ruling BJP had urged the Election Commission to take steps against poll officials who defaced PM Modi's photograph in banners and hoardings put up in public places in the state, instead of removing them.

A 52-year-old Indian man died in the US after three masked men opened fire at him, leaving his wife and child injured, police said.

Pinal Patel and his family had arrived home from work when three masked individuals with guns targetted them last week on Thoroughbred Lane in Georgia, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said.
