Public Service Commission Prelim exam held in Maharashtra

Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) on Sunday held its preliminary exam for State Services, with all standard operating procedures related to Covid-19 protocols in place.
 
Earlier, the state government had postponed the exam in view of increasing Covid-19 cases. This exam was earlier scheduled on March 14 and was rescheduled on March 11 before the final date was set for March 21.
 
However, after students across the state protested against the postponement, the government had rescheduled the exam for March 21. Candidates were seen wearing masks and maintaining social distancing norms at an exam centre in Pune. In Nagpur, the exam took place amid a complete lockdown imposed in the city due to a rise in Covid-19 cases.

Amid outflows globally, FPIs invest Rs 8,642 crore in Indian markets in March

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have invested a net sum of Rs 8,642 crore in Indian markets so far in March.
According to depositories data, FPIs poured in Rs 14,202 crore into equities but pulled out Rs 5,560 crore from debt segment between March 1-19.
 
This took the total net investment to Rs 8,642 crore.

West Bengal Assembly polls: Amit Shah set to release BJP's manifesto today

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday reached West Bengal as the Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to unveil its manifesto for Assembly elections.
 
"The Sankalp Patra (manifesto of BJP) will be launched at 5:30 pm in Kolkata by Union Minister Amit Shah," a tweet from Office of Amit Shah said.
 
The senior BJP leader is also scheduled to attend public meeting in Egra, Purba Medinipur at 12:30 pm. Elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in eight phases starting from March 27 with the final round of voting taking place on April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address public rallies in West Bengal's Bankura and Assam's Bokakhat on Sunday.
 
The Prime Minister on Saturday had addressed a rally in West Bengal's Kharagpur where he accused the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government of loot, violence, corruption and misgovernance and said that West Bengal needs a dispensation that gives "Padhai (education), Kamai (jobs), Dawai (medicines), Sinchai (irrigation) and Sunwai (justice by listening to complaints)".
 
Stating that there is a potential of making 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' in West Bengal, the Prime Minister alleged that these prospects have been hurt by the TMC. The Prime Minister also promised a fisheries plan for the deep-sea fishing harbour at Petuaghat in the East Midnapore district.

Param Bir Singh should prove his allegations, I'm filing defamation suit against him: Anil Deshmukh

After Param Bir Singh alleged that he was indulged in "malpractices" and asked suspended API Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crore every month, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Saturday said he is filing a defamation suit against former Mumbai Police Commissioner.
 
"Param Bir Singh should prove his allegations. I am filing a defamation suit against him," Deshmukh said.
 
Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray alleging that Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had indulged in "malpractices" and asked suspended API Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crore every month.
 
The allegations were made a day after Deshmukh had said that Param Bir Singh was moved out as Mumbai Police Commissioner so that cases pertaining to Waze were probed without obstruction.

Congress releases list of 39 candidates for West Bengal Assembly polls

Congress on Saturday released a list of 39 candidates for the West Bengal Assembly polls. The party fielded Neajuddin Sk in Murshidabad, Silvi Saha in Krisnanagar Uttar, Dharmendra Shaw in Bhatpara. Md Shadab Khan will be contesting from Bhabanipur while Md Mukhtar is the party's candidate in Kolkata Port. Ashutosh Chatterjee got the party ticket to contest from Rashbehari seat whereas the party fielded Santosh Kumar Pathak in Chowrangee. Janab Ajmal Khan is the party's candidate from Jorasanko.
 
The candidates declared are for the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth phases of the Assembly polls.
 
Congress Party is fighting Assembly Polls on 92 seats in alliance with the Left parties. Elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in eight phases starting from March 27 with the final round of voting taking place on April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.

Postponed MPSC exam to be held on Sunday

The preliminary examination of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), which was earlier scheduled for coming Sunday, will now be held on March 21, the commission announced on Friday.
 
The MPSC had on Thursday postponed the exam, which is required for government jobs, citing the COVID-19 situation. The decision, announced by the Relief and Rehabilitation Department in a circular, sparked protests by students and also came in for flak from leaders of the ruling coalition members Congress and NCP as well as opposition BJP.
 
After backlash, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had announced on Thursday evening that the examination would be held by March 22.
