Indian war veterans join Victory Day celebrations in Dhaka
Indian war veterans, participating in Victory Day celebrations, paid tribute to the members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces who made supreme sacrifices during the Liberation War of 1971 by laying a wreath at the altar of Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment.
Earlier, 30 Indian war veterans and six serving officers of Indian Armed Forces reached Dhaka to participate in Bangladesh's Victory Day celebrations.
India and Bangladesh had invited each other's war veterans and serving officers to participate in Victory Day celebrations. On Wednesday, 29 valiant Muktijoddhas and six serving officers of Bangladesh Armed Forces departed for India to participate in Vijay Diwas celebrations at Kolkata.

B'desh Prez, PM attend Victory Day parade
Bangladesh President M. Abdul Hamid, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday attended the Victory Day parade at the National Parade Ground here.
The President, also supreme commander of the armed forces division, saluted and inspected the parade marking the celebration of 51 years of Bangladesh's victory in Liberation War of 1971.
President Hamid, accompanied by Major General Mohammad Shaheenul Haque - the parade commander and also General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 9th Infantry Division and Area Commander of Savar Area, inspected the parade while riding on an open jeep and took the salute.

Global cholera surge likely accelerated by climate change, warns WHO
Amid a global resurgence of cholera, a top World Health Organization (WHO) official on Friday said that climate change has driven an "unprecedented" number of larger and more deadly cholera outbreaks this year.
"The map is under threat (from cholera) everywhere," said Philippe Barboza, WHO Team Lead for Cholera and Epidemic Diarrhoeal Diseases. He was quoted as saying by UN News while speaking in Geneva.
Available data points to cases of infection in around 30 countries, whereas in the previous five years, fewer than 20 countries reported infections, on average.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to visit sub-Saharan Africa
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will travel in January to South Africa, Zambia, and Senegal, her office announced Friday, in what will be the first of a string of Biden administration official visits to sub-Saharan Africa next year.
The world's second-largest continent is crucial to the global economy due to its rapidly growing population and significant natural resources. China's deepening economic entrenchment in African nations, surpassing the U.S. in trade with Africa to become one of the world's largest creditors, is also a motivator for the U.S. to deepen ties with African nations.
President Joe Biden on Thursday announced during a U.S. summit with African leaders that he plans to make a trip to the region next year, as do Vice President Kamala Harris, first lady Jill Biden and a number of Cabinet secretaries.
