US securities agency denies claims it's harassing Elon Musk
US securities regulators responded to allegations that they are harassing Elon Musk, writing in a letter that they're following a judge's instructions in trying to speak with the Tesla CEO's lawyers about his posts on Twitter.
In a letter dated Friday, Steven Buchholz of the Securities and Exchange Commission's San Francisco Office wrote that the judge handling a securities case against Musk encouraged both sides to confer before raising issues with the court.
He also denied that the agency had issued subpoenas in the Musk Twitter case and that the SEC is taking too long to distribute a USD 40 million penalty from Musk and Tesla that is supposed to go to Tesla shareholders.

Canvassing for BJP candidate Okram Henry Singh in Manipur on Friday, "In the past seven years, the BJP government has promoted the creation of 60,000 startups in the country. If the BJP forms its government in the state, then it would create a corpus fund of Rs 100 crore exclusively for startups in Manipur."
Attacking the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, she said, "Did Rahul Gandhi or the Congress party manage to create an environment for the creation of at least 60 startups in the country."

US children's mental health crisis worse during Covid: CDC studies
American children's mental health crisis has gotten worse during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to two new studies published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Both studies, published on Friday, examined pediatric emergency department (ED) visits data from 2019 through January 2022, Xinhua news agency reported.
One study showed Covid-19-related ED visits increased across all pandemic years and among pediatric age groups.
US Supreme Court to hear Biden argument to end Trump-era 'remain in Mexico policy'
The US Supreme Court agreed to hear the Biden administration's argument to rescind the Trump-era 'Remain in Mexico' policy, a court filing revealed.
"The petition for a writ of certiorari is granted," the court filing revealed on Friday. "The case will be set for argument in the second week of the April 2022 argument session."
In August, a US federal court in the state of Texas ordered the Biden administration to restart the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), otherwise known as the "Remain in Mexico" policy, on December 6. The decision came after the US Supreme Court rejected the Biden administration's initial attempt to end the program.

Gunfight breaks out in J&K's Shopian
A gunfight erupted between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, police said on Saturday.
"Encounter had started at Chermarg, Zainapora area. Police and security forces are on the job," the police said.
A joint team of the police and the security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about presence of terrorists.
Global Covid caseload tops 421.3 mn
The global coronavirus caseload has topped 421.3 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.87 million and vaccinations to over 10.31 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Saturday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 421,348,262 and 5,872,338, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 10,317,284,055.
The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 78,372,010 and 933,808, according to the CSSE.
Urban civic polls: Voting begins in TN amid tight security
The voting in the urban civic polls in Tamil Nadu began on Saturday at 7 AM across the state amid tight police security and arrangements including ramps to ensure hassle-free experience to the differently- abled.
Voting began in urban regions spread across 38 districts at 7 AM with Tamil Nadu State Election Commission ensuring monitoring polling stations through web streaming and CCTV cameras and state police deploying nearly 1 lakh personnel for security. Authorities said arrangements like ramps and availability of wheelchairs have also been ensured.
Arunachal could've remained UT for a few more years: CM Khandu
Arunachal Pradesh was given statehood a bit earlier, and could have remained a Union Territory for a few more years, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said on Friday.
He made the remarks while speaking at a symposium, "Youth Perspective on Development and Changes in Arunachal Pradesh in 50 years", here. The programme was organised as part of the celebrations of '50 Years of Arunachal Pradesh'.
Arunachal Pradesh became a full-fledged state on February 20, 1987.
