A man and his son, aged 7, died of burns in Puducherry after the crackers they were carrying on a two-wheeler exploded. Two bystanders were injured. Police suspect the crackers exploded due to friction, PTI reported.

The Income Tax Department has frozen deposits worth Rs 53 crore at an urban credit cooperative bank in Maharashtra for "glaring irregularities", said a statement on Saturday. "More than 1,200 new bank accounts were opened in the said branch without PAN (permanent account number)," said the Central Board of Direct Taxes about Buldana Urban Cooperative Credit.
