India logs 9,216 new Covid-19 infections
India reported 9,216 new Covid-19 cases on Friday after announcing its first two Omicron cases the previous day. Total cases have now reached 34.62 million, health ministry data showed. Deaths rise by 391 to a total of 470,115.

BJP MPs to introduce private member bills on uniform civil code, population

Salvadoran military plane crashes in Pacific, 2 dead
A Salvadoran military plane crashed into the Pacific on Thursday, apparently killing all three people aboard, including the son of the defence minister.
The armed forces confirmed that the bodies of two victims had been recovered, and sea searches continued for the third, the AP reported.

Farmers union says waiting to hear from govt
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha has said farmers continue their protests at Delhi’s borders because the government has not communicated to them about demands. SKM, a collective of 40 unions, said it want legal guarantee on minimum support price for crops and compensation to families of farmers who died during the protests against three agriculture laws that have now been repealed.

Bommai to hold meeting to discuss Omicron cases
Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai meet his advisors in Bengaluru on Friday to discuss his government’s plan after India first two cases of the new Omicron variant of coronavirus were detected in Karnataka. The government "will come out with new SoPs (standard operating procedure). We are also trying to get expert views and guidelines of the Centre," he told reporters in Bengaluru.
