Manali-Leh highway reopened for traffic after 5 months

The highway that connects Manali in Himachal Pradesh with Leh has been partially reopened for traffic after remaining shut for more than five months owing to heavy snow, an official said on Monday.

"The traffic between Manali and Leh has been restored for light vehicles. However, the movement of two-wheelers and trucks would be allowed later when the road be found fit," an official from the 38 Task Force of the General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) told IANS.

Unvaccinated people increase Covid-19 risk for those who are vaccinated: Study

Unvaccinated people threaten the safety of those who are vaccinated against COVID-19 even when the immunisation rates are high, according to a modelling study published on Monday.

Researchers from the University of Toronto in Canada used a simple model to explore the effect of mixing between unvaccinated and vaccinated people to understand the dynamics of an infectious disease like SARS-CoV-2.

They simulated mixing of like-with-like populations in which people have exclusive contact with others of the same vaccination status as well as random mixing between different groups.

Cyberattack in Oil India's headquarters, attackers demand over Rs 57 cr as ransom

Oil India Limited's headquarter in the Dibrugarh district of Assam witnessed a ransomware attack which lead to the shutting down of the company's computer and IT systems.

"Oil India Limited's registered headquarter at Duliajan is under a ransomware attack which led to the company shutting down its computers and IT systems," said OIL spokesperson Tridiv Hazarika on Sunday.

Delhi court takes cognizance of ED charge sheet in Indo-Bangla border cattle smuggling case

A Delhi court has taken cognizance of a charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate against former TMC youth wing leader Vinay Mishra, the alleged kingpin of a cattle smuggling racket across the India-Bangladesh border, Mohammad Enamul Haque and others.

Special Judge Sanjay Garg issued summons against Mishra, his brother Vikas Mishra and other accused persons in the matter, and directed them to appear before the court on June 1.

MP govt sends proposal to Centre to change name of town in CM's Assembly constituency

After renaming a couple of places in Madhya Pradesh in the recent past, the state government is now planning to change the name of another town - Nasrullaganj, which is located in Budhni Assembly constituency of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

A proposal to change the name of Nasrullaganj as Bherunda has been sent to the Centre, Chouhan said on Sunday while addressing a sports event in the town, located nearly 90 km from the state capital Bhopal.

Active Covid-19 cases in country rise to 16,522

With 2,541 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India's total tally of Covid-19 cases rose to 4,30,60,086, while the active cases increased to 16,522, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The death toll climbed to 5,22,223 with 30 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.
