Retail inflation likely at six-month high in Dec: Reuters poll

Higher telecommunications charges, along with a comparatively low base one year ago, likely drove Indian retail inflation to a six-month high in December, a Reuters poll found, keeping alive expectations for an interest rate rise by mid-year. The January 4-7 survey of 41 economists showed Indian retail inflation rose to 5.80% last month from 4.91% in November, spending more than two years above the Reserve Bank of India's medium-term target of 4.0%.

46 inmates, 43 staffers of three jails in Delhi test positive for Covid

Forty-six inmates and 43 staffers of three jails in Delhi have tested positive for COVID-19, officials said on Monday.

"All the infected inmates as well as staffers have been under isolation and are recovering," said a senior jail official.

According to data shared by the jail authorities, 46 inmates tested positive till Sunday -- 29 inmates in Tihar and the remaining 17 in Mandoli jail.

Over 55% people in UP's Ayodhya fully vaccinated against COVID-19

More than 55 per cent of people in Ayodhya are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, District Magistrate Nitish Kumar informed.

"93.61 per cent of Ayodhya inoculated with a first dose and more than 55 per cent with a second dose. The percentage staus are good, we are further trying to complete 100 per cent," he said.

The District Magistrate also said that political posters in the district will be removed within three days as the model code of conduct has come into effect with the Election Commission announcing polls dates for the state.

Global Covid caseload tops 306.9 mn

Amid an ongoing resurgence across the world, the global coronavirus caseload has topped 306.9 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.48 million and vaccinations to over 9.41 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Monday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 306,911,004 and 5,488,373, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 9,410,829,625.

The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 60,072,321 and 837,594, according to the CSSE.

Food delivery killed in Delhi bike crash, 'drunk' cop arrested

A food delivery executive of an online platform was killed Sunday night in northwest Delhi's Rohini when he was hit by the vehicle of a policeman suspected to be drunk. Salil Tripathi, 38, was driving his bike to deliver an order. Police have arrested constable Zile Singh, who was injured in the crash.
