Target for emissions-free cars set in Glasgow

A group of nations and companies has announced plans to make the switch to emissions-free cars by 2040 and by no later than 2035 in leading auto markets, AP reported.
 
The announcement was made Wednesday on the sidelines of the UN climate conference in Glasgow.
 
It was backed by countries including Canada, Chile, Denmark, India, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

More rains likely in Tamil Nadu: IMD

A well-marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to concentrate into a depression by Wednesday evening and bring in more rainfall to Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh that have been inundated with copious rains already for the past three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD)said on Wednesday, IANS reported.

"The Low Pressure Area (LPA) over southeast Bay of Bengal lay as a well-marked Low Pressure Area over southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal at 5:30 a.m. By 8:30 a.m., it lay over central parts of the south Bay of Bengal. It is likely to concentrate into a depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal during next 12 hours, move west-northwestwards and reach near north Tamil Nadu coast by Thursday early morning," the IMD said in a statement.

INX Media case: HC junks CBI plea against order allowing inspection of documents by Chidambaram

Delhi High Court on Wednesday rejected a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) challenging an order that allowed to inspect the documents, which were seized during the investigation, by the accused persons in INX Media Pvt Ltd, including former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and his son Karti, IANS reported.

A single bench of Justice Mukta Gupta dismissed the CBI's plea seeking to set aside a special judge's March 5 order that allowed the inspection of documents kept in the record room by the accused persons or their advocate.

"The petition is dismissed," the Court said.
