Govt making efforts to meet gencos' coal demand, trying to raise supply to 2 MT per day: Joshi

Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi on Tuesday said the government is making full efforts to meet the coal demand of power producers and stressed that steps are being taken to soon ramp up the dry-fuel supply to two million tonnes per day, from the current overall dispatch of 1.95 MT per day.

"We at the ministry and Coal India Ltd (CIL) are making full efforts to meet the coal demand... Yesterday (Monday), we supplied around 1.95 million tonnes (MT) of coal. Around 1.6 million tonnes from CIL and the remaining from Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. All put together, 1.95 MT we have supplied," the minister said.

The statement comes at a time when the country's power plants are grappling with fuel shortages.

Ministry of Coal launches the next tranche of auction of mines for sale of coal

After successful auction of 28 coal mines in the first two tranches, Ministry of Coal has today launched the auction process of 40 new coal mines (21new mines under CM(SP) Act and 19 new mines under the Tranche 3 of MMDR Act).
 
With coal mines rolling over from previous tranche, there shall be a total of 88 coal mines on offer.

Over 1,200 protestors booked over protest in UP's Noida

An FIR was lodged on Tuesday against 1,200 to 1,500 protestors, including women, who have been charged with murder attempt, rioting, wrongful confinement, destruction of public property, among others, during an ongoing protest outside Noida Authority office here, officials said.

Around 1,200 to 1,500 accused people have been booked in the case and the FIR names 31 individuals that includes Bhartiya Kisan Parishad leader Sukhvir Khaleefa alias Sukhvir Pahalwan.

Biological E seeks DCGI's nod for phase-3 trial of Corbevax as booster dose

Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company Biological E has sought permission from India's drug regulator to conduct the phase-3 clinical trial for its COVID-19 vaccine Corbevax as a single booster dose for those who have been fully vaccinated with Covishield or Covaxin.

Currently, phase 2/3 clinical trials of the second indigenously developed Corbevax, an RBD protein sub-unit vaccine to be administered in adults aged 18 years to 80 years, is underway and the results are likely to be declared this month.

The company, meanwhile, has put in an application seeking the nod of the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to conduct the phase-3 clinical study of Corbevax as a single booster dose in those fully inoculated with either Covishield or Covaxin.

Retail inflation eases to 4.35% in Sept; IIP grows 11.9% in August

India's retail inflation eased again in September, falling to a five-month low, thanks to a favourable comparison with last year and moderating food prices that offset a surge in the cost of crude oil and fuel, government data showed on Tuesday.

Consumer price inflation fell sharply to 4.35% in September from 5.3% in August. This marks the third consecutive month within the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) tolerance band of 2%-6%.

Awaiting regulatory nod to launch Covaxin for children: Bharat Biotech

After getting approval from Subject Expert Committee (SEC) for Covaxin to be used for children in the 2 to 18 years age group with certain conditions, Bharat Biotech on Tuesday said they are awaiting further regulatory approvals from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) to launch the product.
 
The expert panel of India's Central Drug Authority has recommended granting emergency use authorisation to Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for children in the 2 to 18 years age group with certain conditions.

The government has asked state-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) to augment the coal supply to power producers to 1.55-1.6 million tonnes (MT) per day around the Durga Puja period, and to further scale it to 1.7 MT per day after October 20, according to a source.
