Delhi Pollution: Air Quality 'Severe' for 3rd straight day; Noida records 529 AQI, Gurugram at 478

The air quality in Delhi continued to remain in the 'severe' category on Saturday, for the third day in a row, even though a slight improvement was noted in the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital, which stood at 431 this morning.

On Friday during the corresponding morning period the AQI of the capital city was recorded at 472.

Also, areas in the national capital region (NCR) area - Noida and Gurugram at 7 am this morning recorded an AQI of 529 and 478 respectively both in the highly toxic 'severe'. Dhirpur in West Delhi recorded an AQI of 534.

Rahul Gandhi to address public meeting on Nov 7

AICC leader Rahul Gandhi will address a massive public meeting on November 7 at Jukkal before entering Maharashtra as Bharat Jodo Yatra is set to finish the Telangana leg on the same day, party sources said.

Senior Congress leaders from the state, including Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Revanth Reddy, paid a visit to the venue on Friday.

The Telangana leg of the foot march began on October 24 and will end on November 7 before entering Maharashtra.

Jan. 6 panel extends deadline for Trump to produce documents

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol has extended the deadline for former President Donald Trump to turn over documents as part of a subpoena issued last month, while reiterating its request for a sit-down interview.

The panel comprised of seven Democrats and two Republicans issued a statement late Friday saying it is in communication with Trump's attorneys. Friday had been the committee's deadline for Trump to produce an extensive number of documents and communications with lawmakers.

We have informed the former President's counsel that he must begin producing records no later than next week and he remains under subpoena for deposition testimony starting on November 14th, Chairman Bennie Thompson and Vice Chair Liz Cheney wrote in the statement.

UN Chief condemns North Korea launches, urges to resume denuclearization talks

United Nations Security General Antonio Guterres on Friday condemned the launch of a ballistic missile of intercontinental range by North Korea and urged it to resume denuclearization talks, according to the statement released by the spokesperson for the UN Chief.

"The Secretary-General reiterates his calls on the DPRK to immediately desist from taking any further provocative action and to fully comply with its international obligations under all relevant Security Council resolutions. He is deeply concerned about the tension on the Korean Peninsula and troubled by the increase in confrontational rhetoric," the statement reads.

Earlier on Thursday, it was reported that Pyongyang had fired an unknown ballistic missile on the Sea of Japan. Media reports had said that the missile is believed to be an intermediate- or long-range missile.

Five Indian-Americans in race for US Congress in mid-term polls

Five Indian-Americans are in race for the US House of Representatives when the country goes for its mid-term polls on November 8.

If the pollsters and opinions of political pundits are any indication, Indian-Americans are likely to have a 100 per cent strike rate for the House of Representatives. The four incumbents Ami Bera, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ro Khanna and Pramila Jayapal - are likely to be re-elected. All four are from the Democratic party.

Adding to the so-called Samosa Caucus of Indian-Americans in the House of Representatives would be entrepreneur and businessman Shri Thanedar, who is seeking his election from the 13th Congressional District of Michigan.

Four dead, 4 injured in road accident on Yamuna Expressway

As many as four people were killed and four others were injured in a road accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday night, said police.

The accident happened after two cars met with an accident on Milestone 87 of the Yamuna Expressway under the Surir Police Station area in Mathura.

All the injured have been taken to Mathura district hospital.

Canada confirms 1,444 monkeypox cases

Canada has confirmed 1,444 cases of monkeypox, including 42 hospitalisations, the Public Health Agency of Canada has said.

Of the confirmed cases, 688 are from Ontario, 525 from Quebec, 179 from British Columbia, 41 from Alberta, six from Saskatchewan, two from the Yukon and one each from Nova Scotia, Manitoba and New Brunswick, the health agency was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.

Monkeypox case increases remain low in Canada and there have been only nine new cases for the past week.

United Kingdom donates USD 28 million to Afghanistan

The United Kingdom donated around USD 28 million in emergency funds ahead of winter in Afghanistan amid the country's fragile economy.

"The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomes a contribution of GBP25 million (approximately USD28.8 million) from the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The funds will go towards WFP's emergency operations for 15 million Afghan people facing food insecurity this winter," Tolo News reported citing World Food Programme's statement.

More than a year after foreign forces withdrew and the Taliban took power across the whole of Afghanistan, the country's economy has withered and development aid and assets are still largely frozen, leaving the country facing its most serious risk of famine in 20 years.

Twitter lays off staff as Musk blames activists for massive ad revenue drop

Twitter Inc laid off half its workforce on Friday but said cuts were smaller in the team responsible for preventing the spread of misinformation, as advertisers pulled spending amid concerns about content moderation.

Tweets by staff of the social media company said teams responsible for communications, content curation, human rights and machine learning ethics were among those gutted, as were some product and engineering teams.

The move caps a week of chaos and uncertainty about the company's future under new owner Elon Musk, the world's richest person, who tweeted on Friday that the service was experiencing a "massive drop in revenue" from the advertiser retreat.

Indian Army approves five Make II projects providing impetus to "Atma Nirbhaarta"

To give a further boost to the ongoing projects, the Indian Army has now approved Project Sanction Orders (PSOs) of five Make II projects providing Impetus to Atma Nirbhaarta.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the Make -2 projects are essentially industry-funded projects involving design, development and innovative solutions by Indian vendors for the development of prototypes.

"Indian Army is spearheading actions to provide impetus to "Make Projects" as the prime drivers of infusion of niche technologies through indigenous development. To give a further boost to the ongoing projects, the Indian Army has now approved Project Sanction Orders (PSOs) of five Make II projects. Make II projects are essentially Industry funded projects involving design, development and innovative solutions by Indian vendors for the development of prototypes. An assurance of order is given after successful prototype development," the Ministry said.

Election Commission to start electoral revision in Odisha from Nov 9

The special campaign for electoral roll revision by the Election Commission of India (ECI) will start in Odisha from November 9.

Chief Electoral Officer Sushil Kumar Lohani on Friday informed about the same during a review meeting with district collectors and sub-collectors regarding preparedness for the conduct of the special campaign.

Explaining to the officers, Lohani informed them that the Commission has made provision for the collection of advance applications from prospective Electors (17+ years) now.

Imran Khan assassination bid: Protesters block traffic in Islamabad, pelt stones

A day after an attempted assassination on former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, protesters took to the streets and "held traffic hostage" while Islamabad Police requested them to not set fire to vehicles.

Taking to Twitter, Islamabad police said, "The protesters have taken the traffic hostage. Protesters are requested not to set fire to vehicles. The Rawalpindi administration has been repeatedly requested to stop the stone pelting on behalf of Rawalpindi. Stone pelting in the presence of public representatives is a sad thing."

Imran was shot on Thursday evening when he was at his container when his party's 'Haqeeqi Azadi' march reached Wazirabad's Allahwala Chowk.

Red Cross warns of disastrous consequences of climate change ahead of COP27

Climate change is dramatically affecting vulnerable people across the globe, particularly those who live in conflict situations or do not have sufficient access to basic health care, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) warned on Friday.

In a joint statement issued with Doctors Without Borders (MSF), ICRC said that of the 25 countries most vulnerable to climate change, the majority are also experiencing armed conflict and a lack of access to basic healthcare, Xinhua news agency reported.

"When climate shocks occur in countries with limited food, water and economic resources, people's lives, health, and livelihoods are threatened," the statement said.
