Work begins on world's largest renewable energy storage project in Andhra

The worlds largest Integrated Renewable Energy Storage Project (IRESP) is coming up in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district with an investment of over $3 billion.

Chief Minister Y S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday performed the first concrete pour ceremony of the project being implemented by Greenko Group.

The company said this 5,230 MW IRESP will play a pivotal role in India attaining energy security and enabling global energy transition.

According to Greenko, this is a first of its kind single location energy storage project with wind and solar capacities. The project is being implemented with an investment of over $3 billion comprising pumped storage (10,800 MWh of daily storage), solar (3,000 MW) and wind (550 MW).

Connectivity speed will determine growth of country: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the connectivity speed will now determine the growth and development of the country.

At an event organised by the Ministry of Communication to mark the silver jubilee of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), he launched the 5G test bed. TRAI is celebrating its foundation day when the country is also planning the growth for the next 25 years under the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', he said.

Expressing his happiness over the launch of 5Gi, he said that it will set its own standard of 5G in India.

Noting that the 5G technology will facilitate governance and make a positive change in ease of doing business in many fields, Prime Minister Modi said that it will create more jobs in many sectors.

Trained sniffer dogs can accurately detect airport passengers infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, according to a study published in the journal BMJ Global Health.

This method of detection is likely to be valuable, not only in the early stages of a pandemic when other resources might not yet be available, but also to help contain an ongoing pandemic, the researchers said.

A key finding was that the dogs were less successful at correctly identifying the Alpha variant as they had been trained to detect the wild type. This just goes to show how good dogs are at distinguishing between different scents, they said.

SpiceJet appoints Anil Singla as its head of Engineering

SpiceJet on Tuesday said it has appointed Anil Singla, an aviation veteran with more than three decades of experience, as its vice president and head of Engineering.

He has previously worked with aircraft maintenance company Air Works as associate vice president and Sahara Airlines as director, engineering, SpiceJet's statement said.

Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet, said Singla brings with him an unparalleled understanding of the sector and invaluable experience gained over 35 years of work.

SC to consider hearing SFIO's plea against Delhi HC relief to Sahara group firms

The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to consider listing for hearing corporate fraud investigating agency SFIO's plea challenging a Delhi High Court order staying the investigation into nine companies related to the Sahara Group.

A bench comprising Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justice Hima Kohli was told by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that there was some apprehension on the part of the petitioner (SFIO) with regard to another bench recently staying a look out circular against Sahara Group chief Subrata Roy.

The Serious Fraud Investigation Office, a statutory corporate fraud investigating agency, had filed an appeal in the apex court against the December 13, 2021 order of the Delhi High Court staying all subsequent actions and proceedings, including coercive measures and look out notices, against the Sahara group chief and others.

The 9000-acre solar park will be built in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
