President Ram Nath Kovind has met Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness and discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, service, health, railway and transport services and sports with the Caribbean island nation.
President Kovind, accompanied by his wife Savita Kovind, arrived here on Sunday on a state visit, the first by any Indian President to Jamaica.
"President Ram Nath Kovind met Prime Minister Andrew Holness of Jamaica. They discussed enhancing cooperation between the two countries in trade and investment, service, health, railway and transport services and sports," the President's office tweeted.

Hong Kong will proceed with relaxing virus curbs despite recording hundreds of cases a day, as the city’s Covid policy drifts further from Beijing’s zero-tolerance approach.
Chief Executive Carrie Lam said Tuesday the city would roll back social distancing measures on May 19 as previously announced, including opening bars and extending the hours for restaurants to serve customers.
“It is reasonable to have 200 to 300 cases each day,” Lam said at a regular weekly briefing. “We don’t need to worry too much. It is also our assessment that we can safely enter the second phase of easing social distancing measures.”

The Ukrainian fighters who doggedly defended a steel mill in the devastated port city of Mariupol have completed their mission, Ukrainian officials said, and efforts were underway to rescue the last of the defenders who remained inside.
Ukraine's deputy defense minister said more than 260 fighters, including some badly wounded, were evacuated from the hulking Azovstal plant Monday and taken to areas under Russia's control. Officials planned to keep trying to save an unknown number of fighters who stayed behind.

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 521.9 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 6.26 million and vaccinations to over 11.41 billion, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Tuesday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 521,911,280 and 6,265,362, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered increased to 11,413,047,894.
The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 82,613,628 and 999,841, respectively, according to the CSSE.
India accounts for the second highest caseload at 43,123,801.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infections fell below 2,000 after 28 days taking India's tally of COVID-19 cases to 43,125,370, while the active cases dipped to 16,400, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.
A total of 1,579 new Covid cases were reported in a span of 24 hours and the death toll climbed to 524,260 with 19 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.
The active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.75 per cent, the ministry said.
A decrease of 917 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.44 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 0.59 per cent, according to the ministry.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,25,84,710, while the case fatality rate was 1.22 per cent.
