G-7 leaders set to commit to long haul in backing Ukraine
Leaders of the Group of Seven economic powers are set to commit themselves to the long haul in supporting Ukraine as they meet in the German Alps and confer by video link with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The G-7 leaders will begin Monday's session of their three-day summit with a focus on Ukraine. Later, they will be joined by the leaders of five democratic emerging economies - India, Indonesia, South Africa, Senegal and Argentina - for a discussion on climate change, energy and other issues.
The war in Ukraine was already at the forefront of the G-7 leaders' minds as they opened their summit at the secluded Schloss Elmau luxury hotel on Sunday - just as Russian missiles hit the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv for the first time in weeks.

AIADMK meeting of top office bearers violates party by-law: O Panneerselvam
Ahead of the meeting of top office-bearers of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Monday at the party's head office in Chennai on Monday, AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam has said that the meeting is a violation of the party by-law. Pannerselvam or OPS as he is known, added that meetings could be convened only with the approval of both coordinator and co-coordinator.
This comes amid the battle for single leadership in the AIADMK between former Tamil Nadu chief minister and party co-coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) and his former deputy CM and coordinator O Panneersevelam (OPS).

14 hospitalised kids develop severe symptoms after taking injections in K'taka
The condition of 14 children, who were hospitalised after suffering from cold and fever, worsened following the administration of antibiotic injections in the Sagar town of Karnataka's Shivamogga district. Among the hospitalised children, the condition of four became serious and were shifted to the District Hospital in Shivamogga on Monday.
According to the health authorities, the children were admitted to the hospital following cold and fever infection. The nurses there gave them antibiotic injections on Sunday night. Immediately after the administration of injections, the children developed severe fever and shivering.

India records 17,073 new Covid cases, 21 deaths; daily positivity rate 5.62 per cent
India logged 17,073 new coronavirus infections, raising its tally to 4,34,07,046, while the active cases have increased to 94,420, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday. The death toll has climbed to 5,25,020 with 21 fresh fatalities, data updated at 8 am by the ministry stated. The active cases comprise 0.22 per cent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.57 per cent, the ministry said. An increase of 1,844 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 case count in a span of 24 hours, the data stated.

Thane reports 1,306 new Covid-19 cases; tally jumps by over 900 in one day
Maharashtra's Thane district has reported 1,306 new Covid-19 cases, taking its infection tally to 7,25,471, a health official said on Monday. These new cases were recorded on Sunday, a jump of over 900 cases in a single day. On Saturday, Thane had reported 383 new Covid-19 cases. The district currently has 5,425 active Covid-19 cases, the official said, adding that the recovery count has reached 7,06,708. The death toll in Thane remained unchanged at 11,902, he said.

As the political turmoil in Maharashtra continues to unfold, rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shide spoke to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray about the recent political situation in the state, confirmed MNS leader on Monday.
The MNS leader further said that Shinde spoke to Raj Thackeray over the phone twice and also enquired about his health.

Earlier on Sunday, Shinde, who is currently camping in Assam along with other MLAs, lashed out at the party for allegedly supporting the culprits of the Mumbai bomb blast, Dawood Ibrahim and those responsible for the taking lives of innocent people.

Israeli assets abroad decline for 1st time since 2020: Report
The balance of assets held abroad by Israeli residents decreased to about $694 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2022, the country's central bank has reported. The figure represents a decline of $17 billion, or 2.4 per cent, from the all-time high of $711 billion, which was recorded at the end of 2021, the Bank of Israel was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency. It is also the first quarterly decline in the balance of assets held abroad by Israeli residents after seven consecutive increases since the first quarter of 2020, according to the bank's data.

Africa's Covid-19 cases pass 11.77 mn
The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Africa reached 11,770,537 as of Sunday evening, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said. The Africa CDC, the specialised healthcare agency of the African Union, said the death toll from the pandemic across the continent stands at 253,994, Xinhua news agency reported. Some 11,207,766 patients across the continent have recovered from the disease so far, according to the Africa CDC data.

PM Modi's diplomatically packed two-day visit to Germany
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Germany visit is packed with meetings with G7 leaders and partner countries along with discussions on issues ranging from environment, and energy, to counter-terrorism. PM Modi arrived in Munich on Sunday to attend the G7 summit. As per the Prime Minister's itinerary, there will be a welcome ceremony at 12:00 PM (local time) for PM Modi by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at Schloss Elmau in Munich.
After meeting with Scholz, there will be a plenary session at 12:30 PM on the topic "Investing in a Better Future: Climate, Energy, Health."
