Biden signs budget bill with Ukraine aid but no virus cash
President Joe Biden on Tuesday signed a bill providing USD 13.6 billion in additional military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine as part of a USD 1.5 trillion government spending measure that omits COVID-19 aid the White House says is urgently needed.
The COVID spending was a casualty of negotiations over the larger government bill. The White House had asked for USD 22.5 billion for vaccines and treatment, but that was trimmed during talks to USD 15.6 billion and ultimately dropped altogether as rank-and-file Democrats rebelled against proposed cuts in state aid to pay for the new spending.

Despite the challenges posed by the serious ongoing conflict, India ensured that about 22500 citizens returned home safely.
EU hits Russia with more sanctions: From trade to truffles
Pure-bred horses, truffles, a soccer club owner and a media company chief.
They were among the targets of new European Union sanctions against Russia on Tuesday that sought to deny oligarchs their love of luxury and rob the nation of lucrative steel exports.
The 27-nation bloc sought to stay away from sanctions that would sap its supply of Russian energy, but pounced with measures worth billions while stifling its ability to work on global markets by banning EU rating agencies to work with Russian clients.
These new sanctions will cut Russia off even further and drain its resources to finance this barbaric war. So one can say that the Russia has become the most sanctioned nation in the world, which is very dubious honour indeed, European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis said.
