Akhilesh alleges phone tapping by Yogi govt
Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday alleged that phones of his party leaders were being tapped and the "Chief Minister listens to the recordings every evening", IANS reported.
He said that all landline numbers of his office were also being tapped.
The allegations came a day after four of his close associates were raided by Income Tax officials in Uttar Pradesh.

2 political leaders murdered in separate Kerala attacks
Kerala's coastal Alappuzha district was rocked by back-to-back killings of two party leaders, the first belonging to the SDPI and the second to the BJP, leading to clamping of prohibitory orders by police on Sunday. Following the killing of an SDPI state secretary, a BJP leader was hacked to death subsequently in 12 hours and prohibitory order under CrPC Section 144 was imposed in the entire Alappuzha district on Sunday, PTI reported.

Hong Kong voters head for 'patriots poll'
Hong Kong voters headed to the polls on Sunday for the first time since an electoral overhaul and a sweeping national security law were imposed on the city. The Legislative Council election--in which only candidates deemed by the government to be "patriots" can run--has been criticised by some activists, foreign governments and rights groups. Hong Kong government leaders have been urging people to vote, saying the poll is representative, reported Reuters.

CIC dismisses appeal seeking disclosure SBI's reports on electoral bonds
The Central Information Commission has dismissed an appeal seeking disclosure of reports submitted by State Bank of India to the central government and Reserve Bank of India, regarding sale and encashment of electoral bonds in 2018. SBI had refused disclosing its reports on grounds of personal information held in fiduciary capacity. Information Commissioner Suresh Chandra noted that there appears to be "no public interest" in further prolonging the matter as there is no substance in the appeal calling for intervention by the Commission, reported PTI. An appeal was filed with the Central Information Commission (CIC), the highest adjudicator of RTI matters, nearly three years ago.

Foreign investors pulled out Rs 17,696 cr from Indian markets in Dec
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have pulled out Rs 17,696 crore from the Indian markets in December so far amid uncertainty due to a new coronavirus strain, Omicron, and expectations of faster tapering by the US Federal Reserve. FPIs took out Rs 13,470 crore from equities, Rs 4,066 crore from the debt segment and Rs 160 crore from hybrid instruments between December 1-17, PTI reported.

4 labour codes likely to be implemented by FY23
The four labour codes on wages, social security, industrial relations and occupation safety, health and working conditions are likely to be implemented by the next fiscal year as at least 13 states have pre-published draft rules on these laws, PTI quoted a senior government officer as saying. The Centre has already finalised the rules under these codes and now states are required to frame regulations on their part as labour is a concurrent subject.

Gujarat votes in panchayat elections
As many as 8,690 villages in Gujarat are on Sunday voting to select their panchayats a year before the state holds assembly elections. A gram panchayat election is fought by a candidate in his/her personal capacity and not on symbol of any political party. The candidate, however, remains affiliated to one party or another, PTI said.

Voting underway for Kolkata municipal elections
Voting for 144 wards of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections began this morning; votes will be counted on December 21. More than 200 police pickets have also been set up across the city to secure the voting, State Election Commission Secretary Nilanjan Sandilya said. The police are checking hotels and city entry points.
