Why is Maha CM silent? Fadnavis on allegations against Deshmukh

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis questioned the silence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray over the issue of corruption allegations against NCP leader Anil Deshmukh, who resigned from the post of state home minister on Monday.
 
State BJP chief Chandrakant Patil said he is happy that Deshmukh has quit, adding there will be many "shocking revelations" in the CBI probe.
 
The Bombay High Court on Monday ordered a CBI probe into the allegations of extortion against Deshmukh by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
 
Deshmukh subsequently submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister Thackeray in which he said he does not have the moral right to continue in office after the court order.

Latest News: Economic recovery resilient despite surging Covid cases, says FinMin

As the country witnesses a rapid resurgence of coronavirus cases, a Finance Ministry report has exuded confidence in the Indian economy and termed the economic recovery as resilient citing improvement in high frequency indicators.
 
The Monthly Economic Review for March 2021 released by the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) said that the agricultural sector remains the bright spot of Indian economy with foodgrains production touching 303.3 million tonnes in 2020-21 beating record production levels for the fifth consecutive year in a row.
 
Further, MGNREGS has acted as a strong pillar to insulate the rural economy by generating all-time high employment of 383.8 crore person days during 2020-21, 44.7 per cent higher compared to previous year.
 
"Despite the surge in cases, the recovery in economy is resilient with sustained improvement in the majority of high frequency indicators," it said.

After HC order on CBI probe, Fadnavis says Deshmukh must quit

Maharashtra BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Monday demanded the resignation of state home minister Anil Deshmukh after the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry within 15 days into allegations of corruption and misconduct made against the latter by former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh.
 
On March 25, Singh filed a criminal public interest litigation seeking a CBI probe against Deshmukh, who he claimed asked police officers, including arrested cop Sachin Waze, to collect Rs 100 crore from bars and restaurants.
 
Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis said, "Truth will come out in the preliminary inquiry. It is improper for Deshmukh to continue as minister after the HC order. He should resign on moral grounds, face the probe and come back to the ministry if he is found to be innocent."

Latest News: Telangana cops on alert after Chhattisgarh naxal attack, step up combing operations

Telangana police has sounded an alert and intensified combing operations and beefed up security in the bordering areas of the state in the wake of killing of 22 security personnel by Naxals in an ambush in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
 
The Telangana police have mounted vigil particularly in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mulugu districts, a senior police official said on Monday.

"We are alert and regular combing operations are going on. In view of the (Chhattisgarh naxal attack), combing has been intensified and security has been beefed up in areas (near the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border)," a senior police official told P T I.
 
Police parties were carrying out checking, cordon and search operations as part of the measures taken to prevent maoists from entering Telangana, the official added.

Latest News: DRDO develops advanced chaff technology to safeguard Naval ships

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said it has developed an Advanced Chaff Technology to safeguard naval ships against enemy missile attack.
 
Defence laboratory Jodhpur (DLJ), a DRDO laboratory, has indigenously developed three variants of this critical technology -- Short Range Chaff Rocket (SRCR), Medium Range Chaff Rocket (MRCR) and Long Range Chaff Rocket (LRCR) -- meeting Indian Navy's qualitative requirements, a DRDO statement said on Monday.
 
Recently, Indian Navy conducted trials of all three variants in Arabian Sea on Indian Naval Ship and found the performance satisfactory, it said.
