BJP targets 60 plus seats in Uttarakhand Assembly polls

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has set a target of winning more than 60 seats in the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly polls, said state party president Madan Kaushik on Tuesday.
 
A meeting regarding the upcoming Assembly elections was held at the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the national capital late on Monday night. Senior BJP leaders, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Puskar Singh Dhami were also present in the meeting.

India's target of net zero emissions by 2070 based on scientific projection, says Shringla

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Tuesday said that India's new target of net zero emissions by 2070, announced at the 26th session of the Conference of Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, is based on "scientific projection".
 
PM Modi has now set a target of 500 gigawatts and he is not doing it under any pressure. "The only pressure on him is the pressure of humanity the pressure of our own future, and I think that is very, very important," Shringla said in a briefing about India's National Statement at the COP26 Summit in Glasgow.

After arrest, Anil Deshmukh to oppose Enforcement Directorate's remand before court today

Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh will oppose his Enforcement Directorate (ED) remand before the court, said the lawyer of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader on Tuesday.
 
"We cooperated in the investigation related to a case involving Rs 4.5 crores...We will oppose his (Anil Deshmukh) remand when he is produced before the court, today," Inderpal Singh, lawyer of Deshmukh told reporters.
 
Anil Deshmukh was arrested by the ED in the early hours of Tuesday in connection with the alleged Rs 100-crore extortion and money laundering case.

Election commission to announce byelection results today

The election commission of India will announce the results of by-elections in three parliamentary constituencies and 30 assembly constituencies held on October 30 today.
 
The election results will be available on the commission's website: results.eci.gov.in
 
The three parliamentary constituencies which went to polls on Oct 30 were in the UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

Australia okays Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for travel

Australia on Monday recognised Covaxin for the purpose of establishing a traveller’s vaccination status, two days before the World Health Organization meets for final assessment of the emergency use listing of the made-in-India vaccine.
 
The backing of Australia could tip the scale in favour of Covaxin when the WHO meets on November 3. Asserting India’s prowess in vaccine manufacturing, Prime Min­ister Narendra Modi at a G-20 summit session in Rome on Saturday said it was necessary that the WHO approves Indian vaccines “at the earliest''.
 
A technical advisory group of the WHO had sought additional clarifications from Bharat Biotech for Covaxin to conduct a final risk-benefit assessment for emergency use listing of the vaccine.
