Storm brewing in Bay of Bengal, likely to intensify into cyclone by Sunday
A storm is brewing in the Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify into a cyclone on Sunday evening, packing a wind speed of over 75 km per hour, and move towards the coast of northern Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
According to a special bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather system had intensified into a depression, and at 1130 hours of Saturday lay 170 km west of Car Nicobar Island (Nicobar Islands) and 300 km south-south-west of Port Blair.
If the weather system intensifies into a cyclone it will be called Asani, Sinhalese for 'wrath'. This would be the first cyclonic storm of the season as a similar weather event in March had fizzled out before it could acquire the strength of a cyclone.

France's Macron to be inaugurated for second five-year term
French President Emmanuel Macron is being inaugurated for a second term during a ceremony on Saturday at the Elysee presidential palace.
Macron was reelected for five years on April 24 in a runoff that saw him beat out far-right rival Marine Le Pen.
About 500 guests are expected at the ceremony, where the president of the Constitutional Council is to read out the results of the election.
Entrance exams for Shanghai colleges, high schools postponed amid Covid resurgence
Over 50,000 students will sit for the college entrance examination, which will be held from July 7 to 9. Another 110,000 students will attend the senior high school entrance examination, scheduled on July 11 and 12, while laboratory exams for physics and chemistry and foreign language listening tests will be canceled, reported Xinhua. Chen Qun, vice mayor of Shanghai, said special rooms will be set up for students under concentrated quarantine or with abnormal COVID-19 test results, ensuring every student will be able to sit the exams.
Since March 12, all primary and secondary schools in Shanghai have switched to online teaching, and kindergartens and nurseries have been closed, as per the media outlet, as per the media outlet.

Govt aims to develop vehicle scrapping facilities within 150 kms from city centres
Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said his aim is to develop at least one automobile scrapping facility within 150 kilometres from each city centre, while asserting that the country has the potential to become a vehicle scrapping hub of the entire South Asian region.
Addressing an event here, Gadkari said the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy is a key initiative in the Indian transport and sustainability sector, and this will enable the removal of older and unfit vehicles and introduction of new lesser-polluting vehicles in a phased manner.
"My aim is to develop a vehicle scrapping centre within the reach of 150 km from all the city centres," the road transport and highways minister said.
