In a daring incident that took place in Bhilai, four persons took one Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) employee and his wife hostage for 24 hours and left with cash worth Rs 45 lakh on Sunday morning.

The BSP employee, Neeraj Shukla, had kept Rs 45 lakh cash in his Ashish Nagar (Risali) residence. The police were verifying the source of cash that the steel plant employee had amassed and stored in the residence.

Police officials quoting the statement of Neeraj's wife Veena said that four persons, including a woman, on Saturday morning reached the house in the pretext of making Aadhaar Card. They took control over her. When Neeraj came in the afternoon for lunch, they took him hostage and kept the couple in their captivity throughout the night.

On Sunday morning, two of Neeraj's friend also reached the house. The looters took them hostage. They later decamped in the car owned by one of the friends Rajat at around 10.30 am today. The family members could realise that the bag carrying Rs 45 lakh cash was missing in the house. The mode of crime committed had stunned even the police officials. The senior police officials rushed to the spot and started the investigation. A special team had been constituted for a thorough probe into the matter.

The police had sealed all the exit points from the district. But it has failed to get any breakthrough.
