Lucknow is readying to host a mega Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) conclave on May 22 with the objective to speeding up the growth of MSMEs in Uttar Pradesh.

The mega event is likely to be attended by over 1,000 MSME entrepreneurs from across UP and would be inaugurated by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The event ‘Uttar Pradesh Udyami Mahasammelan 2013’ is being organised by MSME chamber Indian Industries Association (IIA) with the support of UP Department of MSME & Export Promotion.

Currently, UP is home to almost 3.1 million MSMEs, the largest number compared to any other state in India. The sector contribute about 50% of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of UP.

It supports about 40 million people, which is almost 1/4th of the UP population, and thus plays an important role in the socio-economic development of the India’s most populous state.

Keeping in view the contribution of MSME sector in the development of UP, the state government has recently announced new policies in all key sectors – with direct bearing on the development of MSMEs.

As such, the industry chamber and the government felt there was an urgent need to make MSME entrepreneurs aware about these policy provisions and to provide feedback to the state government regarding implementation status.

Meanwhile, important topics to be discussed in the conclave are programs and policies of the department of MSME & Export Promotion, issues related to implementation of industrial policies, industrial infrastructure, ease of doing business, taxation, credit, provisions of 12th Five Year Plan, program & schemes of union ministry of MSME, NSIC schemes, public procurement policy of UP and central government.
