Maharashtra reports 8,159 new Covid-19 cases, 165 deaths, 7,839 recoveries

The state has 94,745 Covid-19 patients under treatment

Maharashtra reported 8,159 new COVID-19 cases and 165 fresh fatalities on Wednesday, taking the infection tally to 62,37,755 and the death toll to 1,30,918, a health department official said.

The official said as many as 7,839 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, pushing the number of recovered cases to 60,08,750.

The state has 94,745 COVID-19 patients under treatment, he said. Maharashtra's COVID-19 recovery rate is 96.33 per cent, while the fatality rate is 2.09 per cent, the official said. Nandurbar district, once among the worst affected, did not record any new coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, he said.

According to the official, Mumbai recorded 430 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 7,32,582, while the death toll increased to 15,800 with the addition of 13 fresh fatalities.

A total of 1,451 new COVID-19 cases and 23 fatalities were reported in the wider Mumbai region, that comprises the city and its satellite towns, taking the tally to 16,30,005 and the death toll to 33,890.

The official said 368 people tested positive in Pune municipal limits, raising the tally to 5,01,285, while the death toll jumped to 8,846 after 14 fresh fatalities were reported in the city.

The wider Pune region reported 2,843 new COVID-19 cases and 38 fatalities, taking the infection tally to 14,72,164 and the death toll to 28,174, he said.

According to the official, the Kolhapur region reported 2,585 new COVID-19 cases, while Nashik, Latur, Nagpur,Akola and Aurangabad regions witnessed 724, 358, 47, 43 and 108 new infections, respectively.

Among the 165 fresh deaths in the eight administrative regions in Maharashtra, the Kolhapur region reported the highest at 63 in the last 24 hours, he said.

According to the official, out of 4,60,68,435 COVID-19 tests done so far, 2,22,270 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. The official said currently 5,51,521 people are in home quarantine and 3,795 are in institutional quarantine across the state.

Among the 94,745 active cases, the highest - 15,566 - are in Pune district, followed by Thane and Sangli at 12,087 and 10674, respectively. According to the health department, of the total 60,08,750 recovered patients, the highest - 10,44,813 - were from Pune district, followed by Mumbai and Thane at 7,03,948 and 5,66,343, respectively.
