Bodo People Front MP Biswajit Daimary on Friday condemned the attack by suspected NDFB (Songbijit) militants in a village in Assam's Kokrajhar Dstrict, in which at least seven civilians were killed.
"It is a very unfortunate incident. I condemn it. Such attacks have been taking place previously also here," Daimary said.
"In Assam, there are many extremist organisations actively working and carrying out their operations. They are carrying out such attacks. According to the police and local sources, this incident has been carried by National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) and it has previously also carried such attacks," he added.
Son of deceased, Mohammed S. Ali, said the incident took place when his family members were sleeping.
"The incident took place at 11:30 pm last night (IST). I was not in the house at that time. Men in black clothes came to my house and opened fire at my father, mother, brother's wife and others. They all were sleeping at that time. I suspect militants belong to National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB)," he said.
A group of heavily armed extremists swooped down on two houses in Balaparajan Village-1 under Goreswar police station at around 1 a.m. and opened indiscriminate fire, killing seven persons on the spot.
According to reports, a joint combing operation by the police and paramilitary forces has been launched in the area to track down the militants. The death is likely to go up.
NDFB is a tribal outfit fighting for an independent homeland for the Bodo tribes people in Assam.
