The spotlight has turned on the relatively-unknown Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi after rioting claimed the lives of at least two police officers, including the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Mathura city and a Station House Officer (SHO). The violence erupted when the police was trying to evict the illegal occupants of Jawahar Bagh in the city on the orders of the Allahabad High Court. According to The Indian Express, the occupants are believed to be activists of Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi, an outfit that claims allegiance to Indian freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose.
The Indian Express reported that the Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi and Swadheen Bharat Subhash Sena are the two groups that have been protesting there for a very long time. They have demanded that all the documents related to freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose be made public. Their demands also include the cancellation of elections of the President and Prime Minister of India.
They also want the Indian currency to be replaced by the 'Azad Hind Fauj Currency', reported The Indian Express, and that 60 litres of petrol and 40 litres of diesel be priced at Rs 1 each.
One of their demands said that all the documents related to law and order and the documents of citizenship must be made public as it would reveal who we really are. Both these groups have been protesting for a while, leading up to the recent violence.
On April 15, the Mathura administration gave them an ultimatum to evict the land. On May 25, the administration made an attempt to evict them but failed.
According to The Indian express, the police have been able to identify only one of the group’s leaders, Ram Vriksha Yadav. The police have no information on any other person associated to either of the groups.
"These activists were followers of Baba Jai Gurudeo and have named their outfit as ‘Swadheen Bharat Vidhik Satyagrahi’. They have occupied hundreds of acres of land at Jawahar Bagh on the pretext of holding a ‘dharna’ since more than two years. Even after several notices were served to them, they were not ready to leave the premises,” Rajesh Kumar, District Magistrate, Mathura, was quoted as saying.
