Mounting interference by middlemen is depriving genuine beneficiaries of their benefits in the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).
Admitting the rising interference by middlemen, MCC Commissioner C G Betsurmath said on Friday, as a result of the interference by these middlemen, ineligible ones were taking advantage of the social security benefits the government.
MCC is implementing a number of social security benefit schemes of the government for beneficiaries coming under the different categories like scheduled castes and tribes, economically backward and handicapped.
However, the beneficiaries are not approaching the MCC directly. Instead, they are applying through the middlemen. The interference by the middlemen, as a result, is on the rise. They are approaching the MCC in all such matters and pressuring officials to sanction benefits even for those who are not eligible.
When the officials tell them that the required documents for sanction of benefits have not been submitted and hence benefits cannot be sanctioned under the rules, they quarrel with them. Besides coming in the way of the MCC’s administration, they speak in deregotary manner that affects the image of the civic body. “As a result of their interference, genuine beneficiaries are being deprived of the benefits,” he said in a frank statement that exposes the situation in the MCC.
Bringing out the situation openly, the MCC Commissioner has asked deserving beneficiaries to approach the corporation officials directly to avail the benefits. If there was any problem, they could meet the concerned section heads, Betsurmath told them not to apply through middlemen and get cheated.
He added that legal action was being taken against the middlemen who were interfering in MCC’s administration. CCTV cameras had been installed in the MCC as a precautionary measure.
