A minor blast took place near a CRPF camp, which houses the camp office of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing the Bardhaman blast, here Monday evening.

The NIA camp office, situated in the Bidhannagar area in the suburb of the city, is also being used to interrogate Sajid, the mastermind of the Bardhaman blast, and other arrested suspects in the blast.

According to officers of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate “initial investigation has shown that at around 7.30 in the evening, two crude bombs were thrown when a car was passing by the camp office area”.

A team of the state’s detective agency has been rushed to the spot. A team of the state’s bomb experts also rushed to the spot to inspect the kind of the material used to trigger the blast. Officials of the Electronic Complex Police station said no casualties or injuries were reported. Debasish Dhar, Additional Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, said the police suspected that the material used could be a firecracker.

“We are not taking it lightly. A police team has rushed to the spot to inquire into the nature of the explosive material,” Dhar said.

The NIA had last month found nearly 40 improvised explosive devices linked to Bardhaman blast suspects. West Bengal police and NIA together achieved two major breakthroughs in the past three days by arresting top commanders of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh.
