Mumbai civic body event to make you aware of green alternatives to plastic

61 stalls have been set up at the exhibition which showcase alternatives to plastic, like cloth and paper bags, straw, brush, packaging items made up of biodegradable material

With the plastic ban coming into force from Saturday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has organised a three-day exhibition at National Sports Club of India (NSCI) at Worli here to showcase eco-friendly alternatives to plastic items.

At the exhibition, which started on Friday, 61 stalls have been set up which showcase alternatives to plastic, like cloth and paper bags, straw, brush, packaging items made up of biodegradable material.

State Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam, BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta, Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, star couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol, Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray were present at the inauguration ceremony.

"We are happy to note that we have become the 18th state in the country to ban plastic, and we have done this despite facing pressures from the manufacturers," Kadam said on the occasion.

 

Devgn and Kajol supported the move and said they would appeal to the people to avoid the use of plastic.

"The decision to ban plastic is better late than never. Let us give our children a better future, one which is free from plastic," Devgn said.
