As the Mumbai Indians team takes on Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural match of the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament, the players’ jersey will be seen sporting the logo Education for All on the non-leading sleeve. The team management consciously decided to leave that spot on the jersey unsold to sponsors as part of corporate social responsibility.
Also, on May 3, when Mumbai Indians face off with Kings XI Punjab on their home ground, around 20,000 children will be cheering the team. An official from Mumbai Indians said, “This year, we have decided to fill the stadium with children who are part of the Education for All initiative. Apart from the dead seats (which cannot be sold due to the sight screen and cheer-leading podiums, etc) and the sponsors and corporate boxes, the whole stadium will be for these kids.”
This will mean these tickets wouldn’t be for sale and Mumbai Indians will take a hit in revenue from gate collection, of Rs 4-5 crore.
