The Indian Navy celebrates 43rd Navy Day commemorating Operation Trident during the Indo-Pak war in 1971 where the Indian Navy was responsible in sinking three vessels near the port of Karachi. The operation also saw the first use of anti-ship-missiles near the region.
While the feat was commendable and the Naval force of the country deserve to be lauded by the country for their valiant efforts, the incidents that have marred the forces in the past year cannot go unnoticed.

"On the occasion of Navy Day 2014, the personnel of the Navy rededicate themselves to the service of the nation. Indian Navy is a multi-dimensional combat force, we shoulder the responsibility to safeguard maritime interests of nation," Admiral Dhowan told ANI.

According to media reports, the Navy chief, along with Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha and Army Chief Lt General Dalbir Singh Suhag also paid tributes to martyrs of INS Sindhurakshak at the Amar Jawan Jyoti in New Delhi

"On #NavyDay, I salute our Navy personnel and the impregnable spirit & utmost devotion with which they protect our Motherland," PM Narendra Modi tweeted.

The Indian Navy, at the hand of its aging fleet and faulty equipment, has faced the wrath at sea due to malfunction during operational deployment. The accident that occurred on board  INS Sindhuratna (S59) that killed two officers and injured 7 others is the biggest example of the challenges that the Navy has to face during routine exercise.
