The bodies of four policemen, who were abducted on Monday by the Naxalites in restive Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, were discovered on Wednesday morning.
The slain policemen were working as assistant constables - the former Salwa Judum activists who were observed by the state government after apex court termed the people's armed movement against rebels as "illegal".
On Monday, rebels intercepted a passenger buses and other vehicles plying on Kutru-Bijapur route. Two of the jawans were travelling in a bus, while the other two were on a motorcycle from Bijapur town to Kutru while the rebels were carrying out the checking near Saknapalli village. Upon identifying them as police personnel, Naxals abducted them and took into the forest.
Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela said the bodies of the four assistant constables have been found on a road near Gudma village under Kutru Police Station on Monday morning. The spot where the bodies were discovered was five kilometers from the place the policemen were kidnapped. The personnel were identified as Jaidev Yadav, Mangal Sodhi, Raju Tela and Rama Majji. While the first three were posted in Kutru Police Station, Majji was deployed in Bedre Police Station.
