NDTV on Monday moved the  Supreme Court challenging a government order that has directed NDTV India to go off-air for a day over its coverage of the Pathankot terrorist attack.

In a BSE filing, the company said that it has filed a writ petition before the Supreme Court, “ inter-alia challenging the constitutional validity of the said order and the provisions of law pursuant to which the said order has purportedly been passed.”

Last week, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had directed NDTV India to go off-air for a day on November 9-10, after an Inter-Ministerial Committee concluded that it had violated the programming code during its coverage of the Pathankot terrorist attack.

Editors Guild of India (EGI) and News Broadcasters Association (NBA) condemned the information and broadcasting ministry's order that accused the television news channel of divulging "strategically sensitive" information on Pathankot terrorist attacks that took place in January.

A letter dated November 2 (Wednesday) was served to the news channel, asking it to go off air from midnight of November 9 (Wednesday) till midnight of November 10 (Thursday). The letter said that an inter-ministerial committee was of opinion that the channel's coverage had revealed the location and other valuable details related to the attack.
