PM Modi to host CWG 2022 medal winners at his official residence today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host all the medal winners of the Commonwealth 2022 games at his official residence at 11 am on Saturday.
This is the first time the Prime Minister will physically interact with the winners of the Commonwealth Games after their spectacular performance in Birmingham.
"Looking forward to interacting with India's CWG 2022 contingent at my residence, 13th August at 11 AM. The entire nation is proud of the accomplishments of our athletes at the games," the PM said in a tweet.

Appalled at attack on Salman Rushdie: British PM Boris Johnson
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed his shock at author Salman Rushdie being stabbed by a man at an event in New York on Friday and condemned the attack on his freedom of expression.
"Appalled that Sir Salman Rushdie has been stabbed while exercising a right we should never cease to defend," Johnson said in a tweet.
"Right now, my thoughts are with his loved ones. We are all hoping he is okay," he said.
Former chancellor and the contender to succeed Johnson as the new prime minister, Rishi Sunak, also took to Twitter to express his shock.

Trump potentially facing Espionage Act violation case
US federal agents took away 11 sets of classified documents from the Florida residence of former President Donald Trump during an unprecedented search earlier this week, according to legal papers related to the search and the ongoing investigation unsealed by a court on Friday.
These documents are part of a potentially criminal violation of the Espionage Act and a few other laws.
They included four sets of top secret documents, three sets of secret documents and three sets of confidential documents, according to an inventory of items seized by FBI agents.
Some of these documents were marked "classified/TS/SCI" documents "shorthand" for "top secret/sensitive compartmented information".

10 mn students sing patriotic songs to set world record in Rajasthan
Nearly one crore school children in Rajasthan created a world record by singing patriotic songs at the same time under the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' campaign to celebrate the occasion of 75th Independence day in India.
These students from different districts across the state sang patriotic songs simultaneously from 10:15 to 10:40 a.m.
The main event took place at Sawai Man Singh stadium in Jaipur in the presence of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot along with 26,000 school children of the state capital. This achievement of children has been accorded a place in the World Book of Records.

"China's actions are fundamentally at odds with the goal of peace and stability. They are part of an intensified pressure campaign against Taiwan, which has not ended, and we expect it to continue to unfold in the coming weeks and months. The goal of this campaign is clear -- to intimidate and coerce Taiwan and undermine its resilience," Kurt Campbell, Deputy Assistant to the President and Coordinator for the Indo Pacific, told reporters during a conference call.

Canada confirms 1,059 monkeypox cases
The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) confirmed 1,059 cases of monkeypox in the country.
The health agency on Friday said that of the confirmed cases, 511 cases are from Ontario, 426 from Quebec, 98 from British Columbia, 19 from Alberta, three from Saskatchewan and two from the Yukon.
The government remains agile in its ongoing evidence-based response to cases of monkeypox in Canada, the PHAC said, adding that it is working closely with provincial and territorial public health partners to ensure coordination of nationwide strategic response.

Anne Heche of 'Another World' passes away at 53
Emmy Award-winning actor Anne Heche passed away. She was 53.
According to People, in a statement read on behalf of Heche's family and friends, a representative for the star told, "Today we lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend".
"Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy. Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact".

Lionel Messi misses cut for Ballon d'Or list of nominees
Seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi was omitted from the 30-man list of nominees for the prestigious award on Friday for the first time since 2005.
The Argentina great edged out Poland striker Robert Lewandowski for the Ballon d'Or last year but was not nominated this time after an underwhelming first season at Paris Saint-Germain.
The 35-year-old forward also won the prize in 2019 -- it was not held in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Neymar also missed the cut this time.

Raju Srivastava's condition is stable, says family; urges fans to ignore rumours
The health condition of Raju Srivastava, the popular comedian who recently underwent successful angioplasty following a heart attack, is stable, his family said.
Raju Srivastava's Family statement read, "Dear all, Raju Srivastava Ji's condition is stable. We are praying for his speedy recovery. The doctors are treating him and are doing their best. Thanks to all the well-wishers for their continued love and support. Please ignore any rumour/fake news being circulated. Please pray for him."
He was admitted to AIIMS Delhi on August 10 after experiencing chest pain while working out at the gym. He underwent an angioplasty later.
